Subject: Poser 8 Render Issues

rik10463 ( ) posted Sun, 21 February 2010 at 2:59 AM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 9:49 AM

Hey all. I am at my whits end with Poser 8. I have an open case going on with SM with the never ending issues I'm having with it. I've already uninstalled it and re-installed it 3 times today.

Anyway.. to the question. What does it mean to "raise the Adaption threshold"? I keep getting a memory crash when I try to render. At the moment I am just trying to test render a scene for lighting. I have it set on the lowest setting that allows raytracing and my render size set to 1/2. I've even turned off indirect lighting. My computer should be more than sufficient to test render, but I have no luck. I have 16 GB Memory. I don't get how I keep getting memory crashes.

The exact message I get is:
"There was a problem during rendering. When using Firefly you can reduce rendering memory usage by rendering in a separate process, raising the Adaption threshold, or specifying a smaller bucket size."

I'm on an imac. Intel core i5 quad processor 16 GB memory. Yes I have the latest Poser updates.

Should I even bother or just get rid of Poser 8 once and for all?  :(

Forget about Adaption threshold. Learn how to use the manual render settings and make sure you don't have Poser rendering with more threads than your processor has cores.

And btw, Poser 8 is not able to use all the memory you have. That's a Poser Pro feature.

Get rid of the imac grin

Get rid of Poser.

Buy a DSLR and some serious fast glass - I'm enjoying mine immensely and producing images Poser could never do. LOL

Just kidding, of course.

I'v said it before, I don't understand. .  ? ?

I run Poser like a train on an 200 dollar, Asus 1001AH 10" netbook (hooked to a 22' LCD screen at 1920x1080 )without problems..

Win XP, 1GB RAM, eboostr, (sort of a Readyboost for XP, on a 4GB SD Card) Just be sure to have a FAST SD card!!!

Mostly outlook, and skype, and messenger open in the background.

OK, slower then my desktop, but NO technical issues at all.
Posers, renders, still have to see the first error. And it has been 2 weeks now.
And does a far better job here then it did on my PB 3GHZ, with 2GB RAM.

And enjoy some family quality time during renders.
or chat. :-)
or come here :-), to chat....to learn, to comment. . .

Runs fine, but slower again, on my Dell inspiron Mini too (Win7 Starter pack)
Still think Win7 is overkill for those small netbooks.

Just keep the system in shape with something like Advanced Systemcare free.(or pay for the pro, as I do) Best licence money spend this last weeks, and the Asus 1001AH must have been my best buy this year so far.

On an average evening, i even rarely start the HP quadcore. mostly for testing, as it is "quick".

Or to fly Falcon 5.3 :-)

Poser 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, P8 and PPro2010, P9 and PP2012, P10 and PP2014 Game Dev

Hi rik10463,

As suggested try to work with and understand the manual settings for the firefly render engine because this will solve you getting those error messages.

Also, and I stress this to no end, not only have the recent Service release for Poser 8 but make darn sure you have the most updated video card driver, updated release of adobe flash and that Internet Explorer is also current Poser 8 seems to like these things updated. Even though it sounds like your error messages have to do with using the auto settings and not the manual settings.

Also remember Poser 8, which sticks in my throat to this day, is only a 32-bit app. Just because it is installed to a 64-bit machine with gobs of ram makes no difference to a 32-bit app. Hopefully, and I am not holding my breath on this one, Poser Pro 2010 will be a dual OS install much like Vue so it can be installed on either a 32-Bit or 64-bit OS. But I will not be standing at the doors of SM with pitchfork and torch in hand if it isn't. Hehehehe

Good luck!

He's on a Mac - it isn't IE 8 for him - it is Safari.

Haha thanks Bill. The last update for IE for Mac was about 10 years ago, so that won't be a help. lol

Anyway, I understand the manual render settings and have done everything I can think of to lighten the load. I've been using Poser since v6 and have never had any issues with renders (other than sometimes having the time to build a house during some. haha) I've rendered more complex scenes on my laptop with v7. It just seems that P8 does not like me or my Mac. (But sorry Bill, the Mac stays! ;) )

I think I just need to go back to 7. I haven't had any issue whatsoever with it. I rendered out the same scene I was having issues with in 7 and it completed the render wit no errors.  And it has the same settings as it did in 8. I've actually not had good luck with P8 at all. I'm on my second incident report with them since I got it. Every day I have new issues and add them to my incident responses. They have been very helpful and responsive but P8 and I just are not friends. All in all it may just be a ghost in the machine. (and I do love a good ghost story). So I guess the marriage is over and it's back to 7 with me.

Thanks all,

R
