Subject: Poser 7 Render Problem

Raddar ( ) posted Mon, 22 February 2010 at 9:58 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 2:29 PM

I'm sure this is some easy oversite on my part but can anyone tell me why when I attempt to render a scene using firefly I get nothing but a gray render image?  I'm using poser 7 on windows vista, attempting to render a scene at 2500x2200 pix. at 2500 dpi.  There are 2 characters in the scene but all i get is a gray render image.   I don't know if it matters but I had been using Poser 8, I dropped back to 7 when I get fed up with all the random crashes.

If you have walls or a ceiling in you scene, you may need to move your camera closer. Sometimes the camera is inside the walls in the Preview Window, but in the walls or outside of the walls when the scene is rendered.

Yeah I know about this issue but there are no walls in the scene, just 2 characters.

NVM I got it working.  For some reason it didn't like rendering with both figures.  The second figure was covered in a bunch of vines so maybe that was too much, not really sure.  But removing the second figure seemed to work, I'll just have to multi-render and composite in post.

Get Poser Pro...... I had P7 and got sick and tired of crashes, problems etc etc, i read too many problems regards P8 so i got Poser Pro.

Installed first time, ran the only SR pack (Yer, thats 1 ) lol ......

I leave it running for weeks !!!! yes weeks and it just wont crash....

I do all sorts of rendering but mainly animations now hense why i left P7 in the bin...just couldnt trust it.

Gald you got it sorted in the end.

I get this frequently and it drives me nuts. It has to do with too much in the scene - and I think it's more textures that objects because I can sometimes render 4 fully dressed V4s and sometimes can't render 2, depending on the character and what else is in the scene.

If PoserPro - or Poser8 - keeps this from happening, I'll have to consider it.

This almost sounds like a transmap rendering problem.  Leaves on plant material are usually composed of transparency maps to reduce mesh size and weight within a scene.  Maybe reducing your bucket size may remedy the issue.  However, you didn't provide enough information to determine the source of your crashes.

What are your render settings?
Is your scene heavy in displacement mapping?
How many lights are present?
Are you rendering with raytracing on or off?
Post a screencap of your scene and settings for better visual assessment.  There are many factors which might be contributing to render failure.  Better to find out now then to repeat the same pattern next time and have your render crash again.

@ leezace: it is fine to recommend an upgrade but, without understanding the nature of the problem, how are you sure that it doesn't also occur with that version?

Let's determine what is going on first and correctly address it's resolution so it may be avoided next time.

Well the pic is way to large, filled with way too many props figures trans/texture maps, to ever attempt to render in one shot.  So I set it up to render multiple passes and composite it all together in post.

However the render in question contains 1 V3 figure with a base texture map, 3 props, 1 conforming clothing figure, and 1 hair figure with trans and text mapping.  1 M3 figure with a base texture map, 1 prop, and 2 conforming clothing figures. 3 plant props with texture mapping, no trans.  and 3 vine figures with texture mapping, no trans.

There are 4 lights, 2 global and 2 spot.  Rendered at 2500x2200, at 2500 dpi, using raytrace with bumps, and smoothing turned on.

But as sayed earlier I dropped M3 and vines and it all rendered fine, rendered the rest in other passes and worked it all out in PS.  If anyone cares to take a shot at identifying the problem anyway though, thats the render info.  Thanks gang for all the suggestions and help.
