Subject: Convert Vob in Obj in vue8 ?

martin62 ( ) posted Tue, 23 February 2010 at 10:30 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 6:22 AM

 Hallo everybody,
I have a problem to convert my vue-models in obj.
It is possible to export the model in obj, but it is not possible to
convert the materials, especially the mixed materials incl. bumps
will crash.
I modeled some objects in vue and give it away as freestuff in rero.
Now I get asked to convert my models in obj to be used in other
programs.

Has anybody  the know-how to solve the problem?

Thank you

Martin62

I am out of my element here, but I think what they are wishing for is the model to be assembled in your modeling program, UV mapped and exported complete as an object. Many people like to do their own textures so this would pose no problem to them.

it might not be possible depents on the version vue you have..
It might be that only VueX inf and up can export to obj..

just like only VueXinf and up can switch to other planets then ours ....

Hi Martin -

I just made a few tests with Vue 8 Complete (your "Old Forge" model), and the .obj export does deliver some awkward results (generating a ton of small bitmap "pathces" to simulate the Vue materials).
The .3ds export isn't much better.
The .LWO export produces a single UV mapped texture (but takes quite some time for Vue to calculate). It is possible to then export this object to .OBJ with the single map, but I think it takes a lot of trial-and-error to get an acceptable result.
Also, you might consider the option of allowing export of your freestuff models (some of them allows it, others don't) then the users - if they have Vue - can go through the conversion ordeal themselves :)

Personally I really appreciate your work, the models are wonderful. Haven't used all of them yet "for real", but they are all so great.
Thanks!
