Win7 64 and Photoshop Cs4 64 are NOT friends at all..
I had to go back to win732 to keep away from huge crashes and errors etc ..
Its known at Microsof and at Adobe but there is no mention of a effort to fix this soon.
So if you want to use CS4 on win 7 use 32 bit version or have problems until CS5 comes out or even beyond that point...

sgreco1970,
I use the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of PSCS4 on Windows 7 64-bit, and they both run very fast, smooth and are very stable.
Any problems I’ve read about on the net were related to people still using the “release candidate” (not the final) version of Win 7, older/mismatched video drivers, or 3rd party plugins.
Download the trial version of PSCS4 and try it out for yourself on your system.

no erosiaart, its not you. Ive found dozens of claims about the clone tool.
I suppose I can just get the 32 bit version, its not like i'll notice lol. Actually, im happy with my cs2, and its 32 bit and runs like a dream on this shiny new machine... but i wouldnt mind the paint-on-3d-objects tools in cs4 extended now. Anyone tried it yet? is it spiffy? Im using blacksmith right now to do that and it does a very fine job. But if its as Bar-code says and runnign either version oin my win 64 is bad, im just gonna be grumpy -man I want that new photoshop hehe. Im starting to truly rue ever getting win 7 64. So much for its enhanced "power", im running into issues all over the place, not just photoshop.
but if you BUY CS4 there is a 32 and a 64 bit version on the DVD ... so afaik you dont need to deside wich one to buy..
I have both 32 and 64 bit versions on my CS4 DVD
and we RUN CS4 on 30+ systems ..
all of them had major problems with 64 bit version of win7 and cs4 ..
Amd all of them needed to switch back to 32 bit ...
And we dont have a pre release version we have original win7 version.
So the "it was pre release that had errors" can also put in the BIN

I can tell you first hand that I am using Adobe CS4 Extended on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and have no issues. Keep in mind that I have a powerful system and use more than one CPU along with 10GB of RAM. If you plan on doing anything intensive I would strongly suggest at least 8GB RAM or more and consider a workstation type of motherboard that supports duel-CPUs. Also, you will need Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate to take advantage of more than one CPU and more than 16GB of RAM. All I can say is it really does make a BIG difference and a lot of crashes or issues (not all) can be solved with better hardware and more memory.
