Subject: PPro2010 FFRender 64bit Crashes...

Vestmann ( ) posted Wed, 10 March 2010 at 3:31 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 7:52 PM

FFRender crashes every time I have Separate Process checked or if I use Render in Background so there seems to be a problem with the 64bit renderer.

My system:
Poser Pro 2010
Vista Ultimate x64 SP2
4 GB RAM
2 x Pentium 4 Xeon processors
GeForce 9600 GT video Card

Same problem for me . I think I have identified the origin of the problem.

it's because MSVCR90.dll is missing on the application folder and certainly MSVCM90.dll & MSVCP90.dll too
Theses DLL should be installed by the poser pro 2010 installer and they're not , so I think they're missing in the installer package.

I am submitting this problem to SM technical support. I hope I get an answer soon.

Oooh. Forgive me guys but I have to make a snide comment. Not directed at you two.

What? Poser needs Microsoft DLL's to run properly? SM made the program dependent on external software?!? They should not have used C++. They should have written every byte of machine code by hand, then there would be no dependency on external software from Microsloth!!

I love Poser Pro 2010, but this was freaking stupid. What were they thinking?.  I do not like software that is not self-containedThey should fix this. It is terrible to tie it to C++ runtime libraries. That totally sucks. It should only require some RAM and a CPU. Nothing else.

I had a problem when I installed Poser 8 with one of those files.

They can be downloaded off the Internet and placed anywhere one needs them.

But the problem is that it have to be the right version of the dll files.

It has to be version 9.0.30729.4926

and I never find this right version to download .....

adroge ( ) posted Wed, 10 March 2010 at 5:01 PM

Those DLLs are part of Visual Studio 2008. You can get them on your machine by installing the Redist on the MS Website:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=BA9257CA-337F-4B40-8C14-157CFDFFEE4E&displaylang=en

I think one of those will do it for you.

bblogoss ( ) posted Wed, 10 March 2010 at 5:31 PM · edited Wed, 10 March 2010 at 5:31 PM

It doesn't change anything , I already have the visual c++ packages installed, so I uninstalled and re-installed all of them and reinstall poser pro once again and it remains the same, thoses ****** DLLs are still missing.
I don't understand what is wrong ?

Can someone who download and install today the release version of Poser Pro 2010 confirm that he/she have no problem with rendering in seperate process ?

bopperthijs ( ) posted Wed, 10 March 2010 at 5:39 PM

Downloaded it today and rendering in seperate process, runs like a charm. No problems so far. Quadcore CPU and 8gb of RAM, vista 64bit.

best regards,

Bopper.

Can you confirm if you have the dlls I mentionned in your Poser Pro 2010 folder ?

I don't fully understand all the installation ins-and-outs of Windows DLLs, but I do know that they generally are installed as shared components in a "side by side"  configuration. This was created by Microsoft to solve the problem of "DLL Hell" that always plagued Windows before XP.

These go in your C:WindowsWinSxS folder, not your Poser folder. Depending on various mis-configuration of your system (perhaps by installing things in the past that had buggy installers and trashed your registry), your system may be unable to correctly install DLLs.

My WinSxS folder has 105 sub-folders and 462 files. The vast majority of these have nothing to do with Poser, so you have to sift through a lot of stuff to figure out what you have versus what you should have. I've seen reports of 25000 files in this folder.

This is another example of how the vast majority of users will have no problem, but a small number will. It is not a Poser bug, per se, although Poser may be the first program you're experiencing a problem with. Your system was f'ed up sometime in the past, as installing DLL's is pretty much automatic and very standard. I'd say contact SM. But they may not be able to figure it out. The only solution may be to actually send your computer to them and let them debug why the install fails.

I've been in contact with SM and they're trying to figure it out.  Last response was to install those VS packages (x32 and x64) but it didn't work.

I'm on XP/32 so I can't show you the files you need to know about. Perhaps one of the users with x64 can do this.

I searched my Windows WinSxS folder for copies of msvcr90.dll. These are what I have.

Click the screen shot to see it full size.

hehe my Winsxs folder has over 67.000 files in roughly 17.400 folders.   Do I get some sort of reward? ;)

LOL. Didn't you know? You can only have 65.536 DLLs. No more DLLs for you!

Just kidding.

Perhaps I'm just lucky, but I never had any serious problems with any new poserrelease.
I tried the poserpro2010 beta , but the only bug I could find were some issues when MS Outlook was open.
I still have to find all the eastereggs, but so far I'm really satisfied with the new poserpro release. The library is fantastic, and rendering is very fast and accurate.

Bopper.

This is totally a guess, but have you scanned your systems for trojans? Last time I couldn't install any Microsoft files was on an infected hard-drive. You can't trust your anti-virus software to catch everything and many can't even get rid of the bigger offenders.

Well here are my dll findings.   Now what...?

On a positive note I really like the library as well.  I just got an email from SM stating that they'll send the problem to development. Wonder what that will mean in regard to waiting period.  Until then I'm gonna try to enjoy the other aspects of PPro.

This is a screengrab what I found on a search in Windows 7 64bit.

all render modes working fine.
In Poser 8 and in PoserPro2010.
Since you have the files? Try to copy into place?

reboot, and check?

(Always good to reboot)

Lots oF program installs lately, prefer a reboot before you start them up for the first time.

Do not know why, I have no clue, just a "feeling" towards stability.

Hmmm...    'Render In Queue' works!   I finished a simple render of the default scene with Andy without a problem.  I´m rendering a more complex scene with IDL now and the FFRender64.exe process is working hard.    I´ve notified SM.

I finally found thoses DLLs in the Winxsx folder , they are there but one make FFRender64 crash when rendering in seperate process or background but not when rendering in queue manager FFRender64 is OK then.

I hope SM engineers will find the cause of that problem.

You're kidding. OMG that's hilarious.

You know, in all the software I've written (easily over a million lines) I've never written something that misbehaved because of non-English letters in anything at all. How does SM keep stepping into this sort of problem? (Poser 8 was unable to list contents of folders with umlauts.)

I changed my user name and IT WORKED!   Thanks for the tip bblogoss!  Have you notified SM?

Yes I have notified SM about that problem and I hope it will be the first fixed one when the first SR1 of poser Pro 2010 will be released.

mackis3D ( ) posted Thu, 11 March 2010 at 12:24 AM · edited Thu, 11 March 2010 at 12:26 AM

Vestmann, if you're on 64bit you only need one of the amd64 dll's, the one of them that has the version number 9.0.30729.1 and then the same for the other two dll's. MSVCR90.dll , MSVCM90.dll + MSVCP90.dll all in C:WINDOWSWinSxS on Win XP 64.

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Thu, 11 March 2010 at 1:55 AM

I'm in Windows 7 Professional and the only place those two files exist on my system are in the Poser 8 directory and I have no problems rendering to a separate process.

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Thu, 11 March 2010 at 8:14 AM

it's been solved. read upwards.... it's using special chars in your login name causing the problem.
