the Gizmos are at the "centre" of the object - which is occasionally nowhere near where it's supposed to be!
Try zooming out and see if they are off screen somewhere

To switch between the one or the other mode you use 'Show Gizmos' under menue 'Display -> Gizmos ->.... ' .
'Show Gizmo Helpers' only switches on or off the little buttons P, L , G , V and buttons move, rotate, scale - top right corner of the gizmo.
If it's still not working - does it always work with other object formats like OBJ or 3DS or LWO or DAE for instance ??
Have not experienced this but I will keep this in mind if I ever pull down stonemason's vob's.

It's not all of them it's just the two helper icons that appear at the bottom right of any selected object, if you choose to have those visible. The problem occurs when importing several specific .vob items, like UrbanFuture2 from stonemason and the Realm Art's dungeon interior item from cornucopia3d. Again, there is no option that seems to bring those back once these items are imported into the scene. I'm sure it's pretty useless to file a bug report for a 3 years old version but I was hoping someone would know a workaround for it.

I always use the control system with the two little helper icons at the bottom right of the selected object to move, position, rotate. But sometimes, when I import a vob object, suddenly the icons don't display anymore and gizmos change to the other type of control, where you have a rotate, move or scale and it's pissing me off. I've never found any way to change it back. Anyone has a clue how to?
