Online Now!

I am sad to report that actor Fess Parker has passed away at the age of 85.  For us babyboomers, he was the personification of two great American heroes and legends, Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone and he will be missed.

We send sincere condolences to his family.

Disney movies, right? I'm sad to say, I'm old enough to remember him ;o).

"Da-vey...Davey Crockett - King of the wild frontier...."

Too bad, but at least he had a good long life :o).

My uncle was a barber and cut our hair to look like a coonskin hat. now that must have been a sight

Poor Mingo who will he roam the back woods of Kentucky with now? Darn shame seems all my boy hood heroes are passing on.

On channel 2.3 here in Appleton, Wi, we get the retro television network. They just started showing the old Daniel Boone tv show, a few of weeks ago. I remember watching it on tv, when I was a kid.
It brings back a lot of memories. He will be missed.

He confused a lot of people playing two different characters exactly the same way.  But everyone will always remember him as Fess Parker.

I hadn't heard about Peter Graves. Two very nice Hollywood icons who will be missed. Fess Parker as Daniel Boone was one of my first heroes. That show was the first (that I remember) that portrayed Native Americans in a positive light, too. Mingo was sort of the Mr. Spock of his day.

I'll always remember the scene where he throws the ax and splits the tree in half!

 What a shame!

I remember watching Daniel Boone as a post-toddler. "Daniel Boone was a man- yes a real man.."

Mingo was played by Ed Ames- who was also fabulous singer. I believe the wife was Marriette Hartley-who starred in an Original Series Star Trek episode

As Davey or Daniel?

That was a scene that was always part of the opening credits of his Daniel Boone series.  My Dad used to laugh each time!
