The Antonia Wiki is definitly a good idea - and why not use Renderosity's Wiki for that purpose as she is a "child" of this site:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/rrwiki/index.php/Main_Page

...and again, after some days where I had to do some commercial work you all gave me this "collect them all" feeling ;o)

About DS settings for Antonia: I will try them out and see what I can do.

I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!

And I am not strange, I am Limited Edition!

I am not sure if we are allowed to add an Antonia category on our own or if we have to ask an administrator but even if there should be interest in an Antonia page. The open question is who is willing and able to do the work... 😉

Now Antonia has the first clothes and make-ups but no own hair. To overcome this I created a small tool to convert conforming V3-hair (.cr2) to Antonia Polygon.

It is the first version so feel free to test it and find weaknesses. This version is only for the conversion from V3 conforming hair to Antonia. The update for V4 hair will follow soon.

You can download it from this link:

antonia.ulliswelt.eu/Dateien/Downloads/HairCon-System_V3-cr2.zip

A detailed PDF-File with instructions is included.

Have fun

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

Wow, things are really moving forward. I'm impressed.

I've had a look at the Renderosity Wiki, and apparently any member is free to create new pages. So if anyone feels like making the first step and create a page for Antonia, please do so and don't wait for me to get my big arse up. It would be great if we could collect the information we have right here on this site, and I guess that's exactly what the wiki is supposed to be for. I'll definitely do my part and try to provide and maintain technical info, release plans, etc.

Can I just say congrats? Making a lady is way more difficult than making a guy or a monster. Think I'll be sticking with those from now on, lol. Keep up the great modeling and it's nice to see the community get behind a project in such a big way.

odf ( ) posted Thu, 25 March 2010 at 5:04 AM

Thanks, Teyon! That means a lot coming from you.

I'm not so sure if making ladies is really harder. I've got years of life drawing under my belt, and most of the models were ladies. So one could say I'm well-trained. Not to mention, the female form is 'relevant to my interests'.

That sounded like a good idea, so I thought I would jump right in, and start an Antonia thread in the wiki. OK, but how? The instructions on the main page of the wiki say, quote:

"Creating & Editing a Page. Adding an entry to a new or existing Wiki page is as simple as typing the text into the area you want to edit."

But you can't type text into a page that does not exist. The instructions for "Creating" a page, say nothing about how to actually create a new page (start a new thread). I can't see any button to add a new page, and the "Upload File" link seems aimed at adding an image to an existing age, not uploading a html document. I must be missing something desperately obvious here. Can anyone explain?

odf ( ) posted Thu, 25 March 2010 at 7:14 AM · edited Thu, 25 March 2010 at 7:18 AM

lesbentley: When you search for a term and the wiki contains no page for it, it gives you a link that says "create this page", which you then click.  I just did that and created a fairly empty Antonia page.

The URL is http://www.renderosity.com/mod/rrwiki/index.php/Antonia. And it doesn't work like a forum thread. It's just a simple web page that any member can edit. It is possible to have a discussion about the page content, but that's all terribly meta. The important stuff goes on the page. 😉

A bit of additional info. Actually the  "Search" button does not give the "create this page" link, I had already tried that. After a bit of experimenting I found that only the "Go" button provides the "create this page" link.

sazzyazzca ( ) posted Thu, 25 March 2010 at 8:40 AM

Ok, I added a place for people to add links to their freebies, as well as a section to list commercial products that support her. i didn't add links to anyone's items but my own and fabi's hair because some people may not want their items listed if they are only available through links in this thread and I don't have time right now to scour the thread for items linked outside the thread (work starts in 20 minutes). I'll do that when I come home if no one else has done it already.

bagginsbill ( ) posted Thu, 25 March 2010 at 8:45 AM

I'm going to change those freebie sections to real Wiki sections. This allows them to be edited separately. I'm a noob to Wiki, but it seems it is hard to avoid two people simultaneously editing the document. If it is broken up into sections it is easier to deal with.

Those are both good ideas! :)

Perhaps a section with links to posts of particular interest in this thread might also be an idea. For example, the one that explains why the old morphs don't look the same  on the current version of Antonia, and how to work around it might be helpful to some people.

bagginsbill ( ) posted Thu, 25 March 2010 at 9:05 AM

I see somebody added a section for links to Antonia pictures. That's a bad idea, IMO. As time progresses, there will be hundreds of those, and I don't want to deal with scrolling through all that just to see stuff I want to get. If you want to make an Antonia Image page, that makes sense to me. Sort of like a facebook wall for Antonia.

I see someone deleted the "Hair Fits" section I added.

Perhaps things will not go the way I fear, but when I search Rendo freestuff for hair, I get hundreds of hair fits for products I don't have or even want. When I'm looking for hair, I want hair - an actual hair object. Now it may be that we'll never see hair fits, or maybe Jules' utility to automatically fit any hair will be all that is needed.

But if, instead, we end up with 5 hairs and 500 hair fits, I really want those 500 separated from the 5. I couldn't care less about free hair fits for hair I must purchase.

It was LesBentley.

Guys - when you edit something and save it, if it shows a conflict, it means two people edited at the same time. If you save yours at that point, you are DELETING the work of the other person.

We need to be aware of this. It is very likely that multiple people will be grabbing a section at the same time. It's not a good idea to just trash somebody else's changes. If you see a conflict, don't just save.

I don't know Wiki well enough to understand how you deal with this. Is there a way to merge changes, like source control systems for software development do?

bagginsbill ( ) posted Thu, 25 March 2010 at 9:24 AM

From a wiki on wiki:

Avoid edit conflicts

Wikis often involve simultaneous editing by many people, and the MediaWiki software used by Grokdoc has only limited capabilities for merging simultaneous changes. If you aren't careful, you can accidentally revert other people's hard work by committing changes to an obsolete version of the document. To minimize these edit conflicts, obey the following guidelines whenever possible:

  • Use many small edits, rather than a few major edits. The longer you spend editing the document without saving your changes, the greater the chance of an edit conflict.
  • Edit individual sections or subsections whenever possible, as opposed to editing the whole document or a large section at once. There is no conflict if two editors work on disjoint sections simultaneously. If you need to edit several sections, consider breaking your edit up into several smaller edits.
  • Make multi-section edits quickly: if you do have to edit multiple sections at once, for example to move a section from one place to another or to do a global search-and-replace, do it quickly and don't mix it with other edits. This will minimize the probability of a conflict. - For example, if you want to move a section from one place to another, it should take only a few seconds.
  • To do a global search-and-replace should also take only a few seconds: open the page for editing, copy to another editor that supports search-and-replace, do the replace, then paste back (to the same window not a new edit session) and save.
  • Don't ignore edit conflict warnings. If you do have an edit conflict, the MediaWiki software should warn you. Don't ignore this and paste over your changes; use the history to see what has changed and merge it in, or make your changes again to the latest version if they are quick.
  • Don't edit elsewhere, then save as a new edit session. Wikis assume that when you start a new edit session, that you started with the text it sent. Admins of MediaWiki-based sites might want to edit the page MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning to include this text (which is displayed in every edit): "DO NOT copy the text elsewhere, edit it, start a new editing session, and paste that edited text back into the new editing session. Starting a new editing session this way can erase other people's work."
  • As a last resort, request that an admin lock the page temporarily. And, of course, discuss such a major change in Talk.
