Thanks, that's great!
We can deal with the language problem if it comes up. :)

Let me work out this main page idea and then we'll see how it goes.

I'm putting place holders for the three promo shots I want and some introductory text.
Then I've got to put in a few link place holders for the other pages.

I'll start with the introductory pager (index), a home page and two pages for the freebies with links for her retail items wherever folks have them. :)

It can grow as we need it.

I'm going to use my Hostgator site mainly for Antonia but my 1 and 1 site will soon host my own 3d store.

Here is just an idea for the front page. Click to see it in larger view.

These images won't be the ones used, they're just place holders for now to get my basic set-up.

This will give you an idea of the promo image placements.

All the other images will be for the thumbnails of the free items.

Do you think it will look okay?

The layout looks good - except (but that's just a question of taste, YOU are the boss 😉) the serif font - maybe it's just me but serif fonts make it hard to read continuous text and so you will find them hardly on any professional website. But as said: You're the boss!

I have something here that needs to be looked into, a complete set of DAZ Studio Materials. I am still not very fond of DS although I am using DS3 Advanced. I found the same things that annoyed me when Poser 8 was new: No tablet support and no support of the decimal comma. These both things alone slow down the workflow massivly.
Anyway, enough of the ranting - here are the materials:
ToniPolygon DS
People who want to try the DAZ mats need the Human Surface Shader by omnifreaker.

Thanks a lot to you sazzyazzca, I tried this and that for eyes and bump map settings but your settings where the best - so I adopted them.

SF, I have DS3 advanced so I'll look at the materials.

Fonts can be changed to whatever is easier to read on the page, no problem with that.
Any suggestion are welcome. :)

Now I better get some sleep if possible, gotta a lot to do tomorrow again...sigh.

Actually, it is generally held that serif fonts are more legible for continuing text. I think sans serif fonts are preferred for web sites because they are more tolerant to bad render quality and because text on web sites tends to be shorter.

Believable3D ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2010 at 2:46 AM

Serif fonts are better for print; sans-serif are better for screen. That's a general rule of thumb, of course, and typography is a bit more nuanced than that. :)

The front page looks good, however, it doesn't show Antonia as she is when folk first get her. There definitely needs to be one of her in her native state, then they'll know what to expect when they first download her. Other pics can then show off her capabilities.

Just my thoughts...

You're very welcome. :D
I have something else for you to try if you're game, another set of basic DS mats, using a different shader setup, but still using the DAZ defaults, so people without HSS can use them. It won't really show any effect under the default lights though. I'll upload it tonight.

Eyeliners have been fixed and will be uploaded tonight as well. I'm doing some basic shadows and highlighters at the moment and then I'll go back to the eyeliners and work on the cat's eye ones.

So you're making DS mats fro the skin that is here: http://german-3d.com/Antonia_Polygon/index.html?

sazzyazzca ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2010 at 11:45 AM

Yes, but the control+double-click should make the options box pop up so the "ignore maps" box can be checked off ,applying the shader settings to any textures loaded.

Faery_Light ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2010 at 4:02 PM

I do not like Hostgator as a server!!!

It is just to difficult to figure things out.
As for uploading, downloading or transferring of files, that is not a problem.
But I can't send email from my account, can't email the support section from any of my email accounts to let them know.
Any mail comes back as undeliverable.

And I can't call them due to being too deaf to use a phone.

I can't find out how to add another administrator to work on files with me.

So I am going to use my 1 and 1 account instead, it's a lot easier to work.

I think I will cancel it tonight.

  • Okay, no kidding: Yes, these are the textures I've used. As soon as there are no errors the zip will appear where the textures can be found with a little statement beneath it that points to the texture set. Thanks for the info about the trick on how to ignore maps. As I have not a lot clue about DS: WOuld you mind to write me a little sentence that can be included in the readme? LOL It's more DS having ME under control...
I don't see why that should be a waste of time - I do not use DS a lot as I don't see anything that I can do with it that I can't do with Poser as well. So I refuse to spend a lot on the plugins that lift a DS render from average to splendid. You are very welcome to pick up the mats and create expert-mats from my amateur stuff!! I just made those mats as some people who do not own Poser wanted them so badly.

really?  then do you think you can help make gamma (or even better, sRGB) corrected materials or give instructions on how to make those types of renders in D|S?  even the best D|S renders i've seen are pretty obviously uncorrected, so i'm guessing the knowledge is somewhat arcane to the D|S community.

actually, yeah, he's in my favorite artists. good point, though his stuff goes into the category of fairly sure it's uncorrected for me.  the shadows are way dark in all of them, darker than i'm pretty sure i could get from a corrected render given how light the light areas are.   you can get photoreal results with good lighting and no correction, just not accurate results.  and his D|S work has that high contrast look of a very skilled but uncorrected render to me.  but i'd love to be wrong.

Here's a new version of the reshaped fingers and thumbs, again as a PBM via INJ pose. Please have a good look at it because I'm planning to make it the default shape from the next version on.

I'll see if I can make some improvements to the way the hands pose. The fingers are fine, mostly, but I'm not quite happy with the thumb. I'll probably just embarrass myself, but I'll see what I can do about it. I had a look at the demos for Angela, and I'd like Antonia's to hands pose just as well.

When I'm happy with the hands, I'll do the feet.

SaintFox: That's a very pretty render. Little tip: if you want to turn the head, do at least half the angle by twisting the neck. When I put in lesbentley's fix, the head will be able to turn a little further on its own, but head turns will still look better if the neck is used as well.

If you're wondering what I've been up to:

I've been working on some scripts that will enable me to make morph injection poses directly from obj files without going through Poser or 3rd party software. I can also make hi-res injection poses from lo-res obj files, but I'd like to be able to go in the other direction, as well, and to make hi-res injection poses directly from lo-res ones and vice versa. All that stuff should come in very handy when I make the "official" expression morphs, and for shaping morphs as well.

Oh, and have I mentioned that I'm now a permanent resident? Among other things, that means I am eligible for Medicare, and if I wanted to, I could now legally make things to sell on the internet. Don't worry, I'm still not planning to take any money for Antonia, but this may open up some possibilities further along the way. 😉

That's what I did - the turning is pretty extreme, almost a kind of "In my previous life I was an owl" ;o) I wil touch up the render in photoshop a little bit as Antonia is no commercial figure and the site is about freebies it should be okay to do so.

SF, that is an excellent render.
That one can go in the tall, vertical slot on my page. :)
I think all of my free textures are posted on the developer's site.
I do want to update them a bit though.
If the Danika texture isn't there, I will post her later today.

As for size, 800x800 up to 1000x1000 is fine.
It will be scaled as I fit it into it's location on the page without losing quality that way.
A smaller render might end up too stretched looking.

For those who will be doing thumbnails to show off their freebies for this site, best at 300 by 300 if possible.
They can be taller than wide or wider than tall if needed but to stick sizing compatible with those guidelines.
Example: 250x300 or 300x250 or similar somewhere n that range, please.

Your actual promo images can be larger, up to say 1500x1500 if needed. :)

There is no automatic gamma correction in DS.. the way I get around it is by copying lights and setting one to cast shadows and other to not so I can control the shadow strength.  And I use the uber environment on plain white low intensity to brighten everything up a bit.. that's the easiest way to do it and you get AO as well that way which I very much like.

This is Antonia with textures from The Antonia Collection, I love these, they really bring her out.

Now, am I right in thinking that, as of yet, there are no injectable morphs available that will actually alter her physical appearance in the way that V4's do? I know Cage had some for older Antonia's, were these being reworked for newer versions?
