Subject: Remember to unzip your downloaded freebies as you get them...

Because I spent about an hour or so last night unzipping and putting things in the right runtime.  Not fun if you do it all at once.

WARK!

Tell me about it ;o)...lol. My favorite is reinstalling Poser and all my content after a hard drive crash. A thrill a minute - er, hour. Oh heck...days...lol.

Perhaps the best thing to do, unzip, re-organize, and re-zip your content appropriately.

Appropriately? Now, we wouldn't wanna go and make it easy, would we? LMAO ;o)

heh heh - not that I wish to be a slave to such matters, but every 2 weeks I have this massive unzipping-and-sorting campaign.  Bless my runtimes !

Just create a temp directory, and unzip to there. If they're shmott, they'll have things organized. If not, I think there's several threads (& Doc Geeps' poster) explaining where everything goes. Usually I just create a Runtime directory in the root folder, then drag and drop into Poser. As you drop the 'runtime' folder in with the real one, and things are organized correctly, you wind up with everything loaded in the right place at one time.

I can dig the massive unzip, have done that way too many times already...;)

Laurie, Infinity, and WandW: ouch.

Because I was lazy, I ended up condensing some of my external runtimes.

There are several runtime unzip utilities around that will do all the hard work. Put all your zip files (and DAZ installers) in one directory and start the utility. A few hours later everything will be installed. This is a life saver after a hard disk crash or when installing Poser on a new system.

I have everything in external runtimes, so for me the hard thing is sorting by figure...

or sorting by prop type.  I have wizardy stuff separate from everyday stuff separate from building type stuff...

I am new to Poser, been using Daz studio for about 6 months, but due to limited disc space on my laptop put most my runtimes on an external hard drive with just frequently used figures, etc on my pc, my zip files are on a seperate usb flashdrive stashed in an unlikely spot because I'm paranoid after two house break-ins (pre-computerownership fortunately, but I lost very sentimental camcorder footage both times)  of losing everything. Insurance doesn't replace everything I have sorely learnt.
