Ran across this in one of the $15.00 computer mags I drool over at the book store. It's a personally produced animation film (WIP). He uses Carrera to build and (believe it or not) Infini-D to render/animate. Remember Ifini-D? Whatever you think at this point; GO LOOK AT THIS, it is amazing even if he was using high-end products...and he's not! It has almost a "Nightmare before Christmas" feel to it. This should inspire ANYONE (like us) who use less expensive software, period. (animating or not) It's called "Rustboy". http://www.rustboy.com

I saw a link to it in the Carrara forum last week, and checked it out. Amazing stuff indeed! Rustboy should be the Mascot for Carrara. He's got a nice website too. Rustboy inspired me to do even more with Carrara, I already knew it was a powerful amazing piece of software, but this pushed it even further for me. I predict grand things for this guy. Definately go check it out. Thanks for bringing this to peoples attention AgentSmith. kaom

Holy CRAP! I feel like throwing my silly, amateurish animations away now. Why try? :) Thanks for the heads up!

Why try? So you can aspire to do things as good as Rustboy, that's why. The only reason I got started in 3D at all was Poser and the only reason I got into Bryce was "Hobbit" (Andy Simmons), after seeing his work with Bryce I was inspired and obsessed with doing as well as I could with Bryce and Poser. Amazing examples makes great inspiration. I may not be as good as "Hobbit" (and Rustboy)...but give me time...;o) That's why.

Yeah Agentsmith, I saw the article in 3D world myself and went over to the site.. Great stuff... I'm not particularly into animations, but it's definitely great to see that people are doing this on home equipment... And yeah, it does inspire to do better and get more out of your equipment...

I was, of course, kidding. I find this animation, as well as "Duality," more inspirational than intimidating --but intimidating nonetheless, for it does point out just how far I have to go...

Just as important (imho) to remember is Rustboy's look is just one of many possibilities. His original 2D rustboy had a Veryy intriguing quality that didn't carry over when he went to the next level. What we're trying to say with our images is important and how we choose to make them look is articulating that message. Photorealism isn't a destination, it's just one path. Rustboy's site is inspirational. It great to see a single person "going for it". There's never been a better time and we all have the same opportunity, whether we have a lot or a little software/hardware. But I'm sure you already know that. I like to remind myself from time to time as well.
