Subject: begginer scifi/landscape tutorials

unclebob ( ) posted Sun, 04 April 2010 at 11:06 AM · edited Fri, 27 September 2024 at 3:56 PM

As per orders from his boss, read that wife, a friend sold me his CS2 so he could purchase CS5.

I am beggining out in photoshop and have been plinking around with it learning the brushes and what/where things are and what they do.

I have done the search here for: begginer, SciFi, landscape, tutorials and only got 9 hits.  I tried google and most of the tutorials have to do with photo manipulation and the ones that have does uses existing stock photos to make into a scene.

what I am after is to do something like looking from the surface of a planet or moon with no atmosphere and seeing the landscape (low hills, rocks etc) and the major planet or other moons.

thanks,
bob

mmm im a bit confiused ..to what your looking for..
Images to work with or tut.s on how to make them from scratch ..

Btw ..did you contact Adobe about the transfer for the licence for CS2 ?
otherwise you might end up being called a pirate and the serial is being set as ripped.

Here are two links to sites where I have often found good Photoshop painting tutorials, you may find help with your project at one of them:

Depending if you have a major book store near by they often have a good selection of books on sci fi / fantasy mat painting etc. Do what I do and go find your self a quiet corner and browse a few. Don't get fooled by the glossy pictures, yes sure they look fab but some books are all pics and no solid techniques.

There's an awful lot of 'learn from the digital masters books' out there that look great but actually tell you very little at all. You don't want to end up spending a fortune on a book that's actually got barely a couple of vague lines in there on actual technique. Some books have a knack of looking the business until you get them home and then for some reason all that you thought was in there has mysteriously disappeared. Bitter experience of many moons ago speaking here!
