:)
The early one.
The latter one has a spot light in the grille mouth and fog lights below the bumper.
I could probably go into more differences, but it would start to get reeeeaaaly boring. ;)

Mine is just a single cloud.  But using different lathed clouds (with different cloud settings) for each part of the "mushroom" should do the trick better in Vue.

Quote - ShawnDriscoll: Mining equipment?

I'm guessing that's what it is.  I just have a B&W photo as reference.  The place is abandoned and tore up.

Becco_UK ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2010 at 6:27 AM

ShawnDriscoll: I thought it was a guessing game and you knew what the object was :-) It still reminds me of a structure from the mining industry - used to lower and raise the miners lift cages from deep below?

Becco_UK ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2010 at 6:33 AM

The same type of structure can be seen in this photo of an old mine: http://www.cmhrc.co.uk/images/photogallery/Cwmtillery_Colliery.jpg

I'm have this reference.  I had no idea what it was.  So the elevators raise above the building and the mines climb down the stairs?  I've never seen anything like this before.  No mining towns where I'm from.

www.youtube.com/user/ShawnDriscollCG

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2010 at 7:49 PM

Maybe these are just what the tops of elevators look like in general and the elevators don't actually go any higher than the roof of the building.  So the stairs are for maint. guys if they need to go up there, I'm guessing.

Becco_UK ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2010 at 7:56 PM

ShawnDriscoll: Certainly something to do with mining. Looks over engineered for just carrying people so maybe it was used to bring the mined material to the surface? Needs a mining expert to pass by.

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Sat, 20 March 2010 at 8:03 PM · edited Sat, 20 March 2010 at 8:05 PM

those are the top parts of Mine lifts known as the 'Head Gear'. they don't just move people, but all the materials and equipment  to get the ore, bring ore to the surface etc.

lots of them dotted round the UK from the Coal mines...

Fun to model it though.  There's got to be a freight train that comes through somewhere, I imagine.  I'll be rendering it in Vue.

Nice work Guys. **Shawn** - The scale isn't very apparent, but I think it will be once you get the stairs and buildings in place.  **Becco_UK -** Nice Going! Love UFO. Have you thought about trying to get hold of one of the old Dinky Toys (I think) Shado's for reference? From what I remember they were quite good.

I finished the Bristo 404. Now veiwable on my gallery.

*Onto my next project.
Still on a transport theme. A little Jap Motorcycle. Seams to be much tougher going than a car.
Can you tell the make yet?

ZIKEO: Thank you. The JWGoode drawings are very good and include accurate measurements. I have many of the model kit parts used on the real Studio model so they get made accurate. DVD's and photos' make up my other reference material.

**ZIKEO**: Not parts from the studio model  but the same model kits. The same with my Eagle and Jow 90 - Explosives Truck model too. I doubt I will be creating many 3d models to such accuaracy though.

Something I've been toying with on weekends. I just learned how to use photos as textures effectively, so I'm going to spend some time over the next few weekends texturing this guy...over and over and over again. :)

Becco_UK ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2010 at 3:26 AM

ZIKEO: The colo cans were used to stand the model on for the photo. The original thing had a few Lego bricks - they were the easiest parts to obtain. That Pepakura software looks as though it could be useful.

Space 1999's Meta Probe re-imagined. The old studio model was VERY low in detail, as it was only required for a couple of distance shots in the first episode, Breakaway. I wanted to build a version that might work for today's audiences, and be good for close-ups as well. Just need to finish a few details and texturing when I get more free time. :)

Soem cool stuff i like the UFO stuff remember that show. Also Space 1999 Gerry Anderson stuff stands out for their vehicle designs. Anyways making a car just started blocking it in there a lot more to go.

The wit of a misplaced ex-patriot.
I cheated on my metaphysics exam by looking into the soul of the person next to me.

WoW!! Nice stuff Guys. **Dann-O -** Is it a Jenson Intercepor? The photo refs look Jenson but the front of your mesh looks like something else. Nice start whatever direction you are taking. **Greywolf** - More Anderson sfuff. Sweet!!

I've now progressed to a point where the running gear is near completion and started working on the tiny power plant.
It's slow going.
