Subject: Better Looking Content, Solid Growth trees in vue?

ddaydreams ( ) posted Fri, 09 April 2010 at 1:51 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 1:48 PM

Attached Link: http://www.asilefx.net/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=30

Go to this link to asilefx

Scroll down a bit and look at the picture called Limitations of Vue 6 Native (Rural Maple Tree) species. showing the odd flat leaves. That's a "before" picture

Scroll down a bit more and there are 2 "after"pictures that show nice full looking leaves, one is a closeup.

My question is.
Is someone making vue solid growth vue trees and bushes for sale that are nice and full like in the "after" pictures at the link.

Thanks.

This particular DVD shows you how you can make hires leaves and talk about hooking.'

What it does not tell you is that you need a highend camera or scanner to get the photographs of these leaves :D

It is a great tutorial DVD though, just like everything Nick has over there (;

thanks

Yes I saw that the tutorial could show a person how. But I'm wondering.

Oh not to sure, there is a HUGE market that is mostly Vue specific over at Cornucopia 3D, give it a look over there. I know there are a LOT of gorgeous rees over there, but the level of this i am not sure as I make my own content usually. (;

Yes there is so much stuff there at Cornucopia 3D that I was hoping that someone would have bought some content that is like what I had mentioned.Someone who owns it or someone who makes it  could save me some time and could tell me the answer.

Since the pictures of the content at Cornucopia 3D are not very revealing even when zoomed
The only way I tell would be to look at art produced with each product find something that looks right and then ask each artist if the content came that way with the fuller leaves and branches or if they had to to modify it.

Process would take weeks with all that content. Just to find what someone could tell me in 5 minutes if they own it or are a content producer.

Thanks for mentioning the scanner ans high end camera thing. I do have a decent DSLR and a scanner.

I do wish that asilefx would give me an answer about where I can get the REAL TREES tut alone.
It's been 3 or four days since I emailed them, I called them also. Buy got total silence.

I contacted Nick a couple of weeks ago regarding an order download issue and he got back to me within ~48h. Make sure that you follow the instructions for emailing him (use "Question to asileFX" as subject to avoid the spam filter).

If you want to make your own "real trees", asileFX also sells an outstanding leaf texture collection with high res leaf images plus bump, diffuse, displacement and transparency maps:

As far as Cornucopia items go, I can highly recommend the "Incredibly Lush" series from Linda. They are not made like the "real trees" but they are of exceptional quality and stand up very well in close-ups.

I have been trying to get ahold of AsileFx for over a month. I've sent emails, used the contact page on his website, even called and left a message. I have an $85 order placed in Feb that I've never received, and cannot get any response.  And I have followed his instructions to the letter for contacting him. I've very disillusioned and would advise anyone considering buying something from him to beware.  I hate to badmouth someone, but enough is enough.  If anyone knows a better way to contact him, I'd love to know it.  I love his products and hate to not buy from him, but ........

I to used the contact form and called with no reply on either.

I run an online business, been doing that for many years.  I'm a sole  owner.
Even when I take a vacation I'll post some vacation text and I will at least give a quick reply normally within 24 hours even in remote places like death valley Calif with very little email access and no cell service. I hope nothing bad has happened to him. If I did not contact a client for this amount of time after they sent an email through my contact form and a phone call, it means I have died or are in a coma.

I also had the same problem some months ago. Used all the contact rules but got no reply for a very long time (consequently, I didn't make the purchase I was planning to make). Some time later, Nick posted a thread in this forum (his alias here is AsileFX also) and I used that opportunity to complain about it in the thread and he replied that he had been getting email problems or something. Whatever it is, he's losing business with this situation.

I suspect (although I'm not sure, I'm just speculating as I never saw any of his DVDs) that the "real trees" technique includes ecopainting the normal leaves of a tree with more isolated leaves. This gives a feeling of very lush trees and hides the ugly planes, so typical of Vue trees.

R.P.Studios ( ) posted Sun, 11 April 2010 at 9:37 PM

Nope, his techniques involve a LOT of Photoshopping and making your own leave sets for Vue. they are great, but It is far to much work for any kinda of venture to be fruitful enough IMHO, If i need something close up i tend more towards XFrog :D

bigbraader ( ) posted Tue, 13 April 2010 at 12:48 PM

Agree with R.P.studios: As long as you use the Vue planes for foliage, you'll only get so-so results (for closeups or semi-closeups at least). XFrog or Onyxtree models are much better for this. I use mainly Onyxtree, it's much easier than XFrog to make your own models with it, realistic as well as "weird". (Though I may note that my popular "Tall Conifers" are made in XFrog. License limitations (un-wise, IMO) doesn't allow distribution of models made with Onyxtree.)
It's my impression that most users of Onyxtree overlook the possibility of using bitmapped foliage (excactly like XFrog), and only use the "native" low-poly leaf geometries. This may be the reason that we see relatively few Onyx trees in the Vue gallery (also the price of the software of course, but you can soon buy yourself over the roof with ready-made XFrog models).

I found Onyxtree models to be square,or octagonal at best, but maybe that  was down to my lack of knowledge (;

Thanks to all for the help.
I found the Reel Trees Tut individualy at E-on.
I watched it.
It would take me a minimum of one full 8 hour day (on first try following the tut) to do one tree using that process, But once I have one built it would be be worth having for close up work and would make nice template tree from which to produce other varients in much less time.

I Wish they would have included at least one finished real tree with the tut built exactly right. That way I could just use one now playing with it and modifying one that is done right.

As it is If I miss something along the way I might make one with errors that looks ok, but not act right when replicated with variance.

That being said if I would still highly recommend the Real Trees Tut .
I also got Advanced Plant creation technics vol  2. Have not had time to watch that yet.
