Subject: Photography Forum Challenge - April 2010 "Less is More"

MrsLubner ( ) posted Wed, 14 April 2010 at 3:54 PM

Perhaps we'll put that up for a challenge in the future if there is enough interest. I know the US is issuing a lot of new money lately and it could be a creative concept. Chip, love this since I don't know I've ever seen this coin before.

Hmm, this is a wonderful challenge!  I have been taking plenty of shots this week with various ideas - very few have even come close.

Anyway, here is my first for the month!

PS: Thanks for the info on Carin - I had wondered why she was so quiet!

These are great!  Your black & white made me exclaim aloud, Clive.  And those strawberries are gorgeous, Helle!

This one came about when I was making banana bread a couple days ago.  Bananas are really a wonderful subject and you can do so much with them.

Studio work?  Yep, as was the previous one of the pencil and mouse.

The studio? My desk and the floor at work during lunchtime...
Clive

MrsLubner ( ) posted Fri, 16 April 2010 at 9:14 AM

Clive, my studio is my workbench in the garage. I have to stand in wood shavings and push the power tools and screws to the side to set up my drapes and lights. :-)

**dochtersions - Carin suffered the loss of several electronic items from her home earlier this week, including the loss of her laptop.  We do not know when she will have another computer available to her on a regular basis. The good news is she was not harmed during the loss of these items and at some point she will be back with us.

Taken today (since it's after 1am Chicago time, I suppose I can say taken yesterday...) It's just a little something I saw at work.  Boredom often impels you to see things you'd normally overlook, simply so that you can see something!  This just so happens to be on the side of one of my father's trucks.

Chipka ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 1:34 AM

WOW!  What news about Carin.  I'm glad that SHE is okay!  I hope she can get her things replaced quickly and without hassle.

Chipka ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 1:36 AM

I have to say Helle, that your most recent post in this thread is gorgeous.  For me, half the fun of art is also being able to eat it!

MrsLubner ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 1:53 AM

Chip! Where on earth did you find that marvelous Star of Texas! LOL  Couldn't resist since I'm posting my vacation shots in the gallery from my Texas trip.  Sharp shot!

Ha!  I found that lovely Star of Texas on the side of a truck in one of the more grotty areas of Chicago!

And while we're on the subject of Texas...have you noticed how similar the Texas flag is to the Czech Republic flag?  Actually, have you noticed the number of Czechs living in Texas?  I think there are more Czechs there than in Prague!

MrsLubner ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 8:33 PM

No, never noticed!  I know we have a big population of Czechs here in Sacramento but we have such a great number of nationalities here.  In the smaller fishing villages I come from in Texas, we have a large number of Vietnamese.

Wide angle shot of the clear blue sky over this part of Germany today. It's been like this, without a contrail in sight, for a couple of days and nights now since all the flights were grounded due to the volcanic ash cloud. It won't be much longer before the many thousands of people who've had flight plans disrupted and the airlines that are loosing tons of money find a way to start flying again, but while they're grounded there is at least one small benefit for the rest of us.

Bob, I don't think you could find any less that produced some much more!

Tara - you do so many Less is More shots with a different twist - here is one that fills the frame but is less...  Just an edge of an iris petal...

MrsLubner ( ) posted Sun, 18 April 2010 at 1:44 PM

I totally agree...:lol::lol:  But I love your leaf. The shadow is key to it IMO.  Without the edge of shadow, it would be lifeless. Great clarity and love the white background.

That's what I like about these challenges. We get a chance to try new things and see what works.  We don't have to challenge each other, just ourselves. :-)

MrsLubner ( ) posted Tue, 20 April 2010 at 8:22 AM

There is still a little time left so I'm hoping everyone will find someone who hasn't visited this thread yet and tell them to give it a try.  It really does have an effect later when out taking photos and you begin to see things a little differently than before.
