Subject: Remaps

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 8:57 AM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 7:48 AM

Any one know anything about the remaps that Sparky did for M4, the ones that allow for the use of V4 maps?

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 9:09 AM

The question is why RTEncoder would tell me that the obj for M4 in the geometries file is the wrong Key file?

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 9:14 AM

If you are looking for Remaps go somewhere else, if you are able to answer my question then please do.

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 9:25 AM

There is not one person that has any idea of what I am talking about is there?

lmckenzie ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 9:45 AM

"The question is why RTEncoder would tell me that the obj for M4 in the geometries file is the wrong Key file?"

Have you tried reinstalling to make sure the .obj hasn't been altered some how? I recall a similar problem some years ago with V3 or V2. I think there was an update or something and the files were slightly different. I think it was just a comment line at the beginning of the file but it was enough to abort the decoding process. That was with Mover, but I imagine that RTE would work the same way.

I have no idea. The readme file should have instructions about what file to use as the key. Ideally it should give the file size as a check.

Since you only posted this morning please give it a day for people ro see it and reply.

from sharecg: PLEASE NOTE: If you downloaded this on or before 10-27-08, the readme may list the wrong key file, the correct key file is "runtime:geometries:DAZPeople:blMilMan_m4b.obj"

or try this thread at DAZ http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=97613&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=60&sid=48b83dafd2df3ed5b242c839734dd0be

I had more than 33 people looking at the post Markschum that tells me they either did not have a clue, or they were looking for some Remaps. That also tells me that it was not too early to want an answer.

LaurieA ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 10:02 AM

Logic23....just because someone looks at your post doesn't mean they are withholding information if they don't answer...lol. Some look to see if there IS something they can do by reading the body of the post and then decide they can't help. Ever think of that?

You really need to have more patience...lol.

Laurie

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 10:06 AM

Then that means they don't know doesn't it.

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 10:07 AM

And it also could mean that they are probably looking for remaps and not looking to help.

hoplaa ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 10:09 AM

You seem to assume that this is a help desk. It is not. People help others voluntarily, which means that some degree of common courtesy and patience is expected.

You're certainly not inviting much hospitality with that kind of attitude.

I'll leave you now with a little gem that you may heed or not heed...

"You can draw more flies with honey than you can with vinegar"

Translated: if you're nice more will be inclined to help you than if you are not nice...lol.

These posts are open to everyone who cares to look at them, including the person who posted them. Some look because they think they can help then discover they can't. Some look out of sheer curiosity. Some look because it pertains to a problem they themselves have been having and are looking for answers as well. But anyone that wants to look, can ;o).

I hope you find what you're looking for.

Laurie

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 10:10 AM

Like I said it is not too early to ask for help or be a little frustrated. Since I had this problem once before and then no one knew what I was talking about either.  Its not about impatient LaurieA just frustration that alot of people answered their own questions and didn't bother to post what they did to fix the problem.

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 10:17 AM

I know that its open to everyone LaurieA to look at my post, but when there are 33 people looking at your post about four minutes after you posted it, and not one has any suggestions it gets a little bothersome. Besides I am only human with human feelings, not a computer.

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 10:21 AM

Besides how do you know they aren't withholding information. All those posts could have been from Big Brother Government Looking over the shoulders of the Renderosity people looking for something to put us on their watch lists for.(LoL) :)

Yucky, why would you want to draw flies. ;)

I would assume that the Emoticon means that you always agree with crazy people? Even if you don't understand them.

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 10:40 AM

I am not looking for the help desk hoplaa I just had hopes that maybe there might be a few people who might remember what they did to correct a problem in the past.

You must be an automaton and not ever get annoyed, frustrated or even a little upset.

And that "bad attitude" as you call it, got you to look and post didn't it.

Quote - The question is why RTEncoder would tell me that the obj for M4 in the geometries file is the wrong Key file?

Most probably because the version of the file used to encode was different from the one you have as ther have been a couple of updates since M4 was released.
What you need to find out from the creator of the RTE file is the exact details of the file they used and post them here along with the same details of the file you're trying to use so that we can figure out what you need to do.

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 11:27 AM

Thanks nruddock  that is exactly the kind of info that is helpful.  I will try to find that info out.

NanetteTredoux ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 11:37 AM

@ OP: There was a change in the Michael 4 obj file. I ran into it when downloading one of WERT's morphs at shareCG. Either you or Sparky have an outdated obj file and that is why RTE won't decode it. Make sure yours is up to date and if it still doesn't work, contact Sparky.

Thank you also NanetteTredoux that is also the kind of answer that I was looking for. Honest and straight forward with no character assassination.

StaceyG ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 4:26 PM

Logic,

No one was doing a "character assassination" on you??  As several stated, you need to be patient for the answers/help you are looking for.  Not everyone looking at your post might be able to answer your question but when one comes along that can (like nruddock), they will. It doesn't hurt if people "view" your thread but don't answer because they don't know the correct answer.. You got the answer you were looking for in approx 2 hours, that is good..not a long wait at all so I'm very confused about your impatience.

People are here on this forum to get help and give help where they can and when they can.  Patience and kindness go a long way in  helping make Renderosity a great place to give and receive information.

Stacey

file_451455.jpg

if you navigate to runtime/geometries/daz people and find the m4 geometry it should show this size , by right click properties

the obz file (compressed is 1.90 MB (1,994,589 bytes)

if yours is the same size and does not work then the RTE file is using an older version.
if yours is a different size you might want to post here again , and see if we can work out whats wrong.

WORK ON COPIES OF OBJ AND CR2 FILES - NOT THE ORIGINALS
BIG ICKY MESS IF YOU MESS IT UP :)

you can try a manual remap :
copy the m4 obj to a new name (mwnewuv.obj)
edit with wordpad and delete all the lines starting with vt
open the v4 obj with wordpad
copy all the vt lines from it
paste them into the m4newuv file
make a copy of the m4 cr2
edit it and change the obj name to the newuv obj

try to load the new cr2 in poser, if all went ok it will have the v4 uv map
this assumes the vertex order for both figures is the same .

good luck with that.

I doubt I will be doing that markschum (she says as she laughs wearily)  😄

There are too many people who don't like me here now and I'm sorry for that.

Sorry because I usually walk away from pointless anger, and I don't have enough friends that I can afford to waste the chance to make new ones. Guess I overlooked that one today huh.(LoL:sad:)

Sorry because it also means they may not answer my questions if I ask them

Can I ask you through site mail if I run into any problems?

If you don't want me to do that, then I will say thanks for your help and leave it at that.

I have a screen shot of your reply and will try what you suggested.

Logic23...nobody here really wants to shun anyone. So if you have a question, don't be afraid to ask :o). We're all here for the same reason...to learn and teach each other about Poser. I can't help you with your current problem, but I know a good deal about texturing, dynamic clothes and props, so if there's something you need help with that you think I might know and you still feel weird about posting, you may sitemail me as well. I wouldn't worry about that though...anyone here will help you, they just might not respond really quick depending on what they might be doing at the time. I've noticed that RO is really fairly deserted (by comparison) on the weekends and much more active during the week if that helps.

If it makes you feel better, markschum still helps me, even though he says my children give him nightmares...lol.

You can site mail me if you like , or just post again in the forums.  What I think of as the experts , and there are less than a dozen , are often in later in the day.  You need  someone who has that remap and got it working.

If we shunned everyone who was a little annoying (not you ) we wouldnt talk to anyone :)

Forums are a bit pot luck. A lot of people may look to see what the problem is , they may have a similar problem. Some will give an answer, some answers may even help :)  Eventually the right person will find youe question and answer it . It can take days for that to happen.

Your post would be better with the subject line -
sparky M4 to V4 remap - rte encoder problem on obj

that means people dont have to look to see what you really need.

welcome to renderosity if you are new here.

they are lovely children Laurie , I am sure they look ... nice now they are older.  :woot:

Just a suggestion - a more specific subject might help. "Remaps" is pretty vague. something like "Sparky Remaps RTE Error" might get fewer views by folks who have no idea r.e. the question.

Great suggestions on the subject line detail, this would help get the attention of a person that could help much better.

Thanks guys!!

markschum ( ) posted Mon, 19 April 2010 at 1:37 AM

StaceyG , subject lines in the forums has been a grumble for years. It can take a while to figure out what the original poster wants, and its tempting to just skip it at times. In this case many people probably looked at it while thinking "whats a remap ?" :woot: It all works out eventually :)

StaceyG ( ) posted Mon, 19 April 2010 at 10:00 AM

Agreed markschum. The subject line wording is so important for the reasons you gave!!

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Mon, 19 April 2010 at 11:58 AM

Unfortunately it appears that the OP abandoned the thread before seeing the importance of informative subject lines.
