Subject: V4 Eye problem

Raddar ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 10:24 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 8:30 PM

Wondering if anyone has had this problem, or more importantly how to fix it.

I'm running Poser 7 and with some character packages for V4, (Brianna for example)  the morph dials to open and close the eyes dont work.  I can turn them but they have no effect on the model.  She looks like she is staring, wide eyed, at the camera.

I've noticed this on some other character pacakages as well so i am assuming it's not a problem with these 3rd party files, but rather a setting I'm overlooking in Poser.  But then again I'm clueless why this is happening.

Any suggestions??

Thanks

Rad

I have had the same problem , I think I used blink morph to get the eyes closed , or reinjected the head morphs.

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 12:24 PM

I agree with markschum, I had the same problem with FK-bettine after I spun some morph dials on V4 she stopped being able to close her eyes. Reinstalling or re-injecting the head morphs could help.

Tried to re-inject, still not working.  It's wierd, all the other dials work, it's just the eyes that seem stuck.

V4.2 is an odd duck. If she stops responding, restart poser. That usually helps. If that doesn't restarting the PC does. V4 and later DAZ product are not as Poser friendly as they might claim, so things in it screw up more often. Restarts usually resets it,though.

Ah...wish I'd found this before I posted my query...I've junked up the Forum now...I'm having exactly the same problem on certain figures, but I spent so long working on the clothing/body shapes that I can't figure out where or what it is I've installed that's locking the eyelids.

Restarting won't (doesn't) have any effect- the figure works absolutely fine except for the eyelids...reinstalling the base morphs doesnt help either...

...so no help from me either, I'm afraid, but I hope you get it sorted...and then post the answer!

I had this problem also.  the funny thing was that it only happened when I loaded a new, empty V4.2 into the scene. If I loaded a V4 that I had saved with all morphs applied the problem didn't occur.  I'm afraid I can't say precisely how I fixed the problem but I think it had something to do with V4 addons I installed, i.e. V4's international faces.  When I upgraded to Pro2010 I reinstalled V4 there and the problem went away

@ Vestmann...just gone and checked this myself...I've got the same problem...thinking about it there are older V4 figures I'm working on that dont have all the same morphs as the newer ones which still work OK.

That means its gotta be something I've added which installs with V4.2...can you remember/check what V4 add ons it could possibly be...one of the common features of those of mine that dont work are the Aiko morphs (though any eye related aiko morphs are fine) and the bodies of fantasy add-ons, but these aren't auto-installed with the fresh V4.2 figure, so that doesn't seem possible...

I also tried uploading the morphs onto V4.1 but this didn't work either...

I think the problem started for me when I installed the international faces.  I can't be sure though.  This problem sort of went away for me when I reinstalled V4 on Poser Pro.

Well...I'm only a noobie, but I've been wracking my brains for a way to sort this out...cant afford to loose 8 months work just like that...

Anyway my workaround was to take one of the working V4's I've got saved, export the head as an Obj.file with eyes open-close set to 1.000 and everything else zero'd (including full body morphs as some add wieght to the face).

I've then loaded them in as morph target in the faulty figure...seems to work OK so far...

It happened to me also... When I did the incredibly stupid thing to install 4.2 in spite of the countless horror stories I have heard... No matter what I tried the Open/Close morph wouldn't work... But I found a little trick... You choose the eye, then you enter a positive number on the up/down dial (27 or higher)... and... the eyelid closes!!!!! Thank you DAZ for forcing me to use my imagination!.... :)

Well, I fiddled with this for about two hours this morning and finally found that loading the A4 Eyes Zen morph - set it at .4 - closes the eyes.  (I split the morph into a right and left)

Necroing this post because I just had this problem happen all of a sudden.  My only solution that worked is to delete the !DAZ folder and all of my figure cr2s and start over from scratch reinstalling the figures and the morphs and so on.  The update victoria base shortcut provided zero help while the problem was occurring.

My only guess so far is that a custom character botched V4 somehow.  I truly don't know and can just as easily blame it on gremlins.

This problem has pretty consistently been due to the DAZ installer either not running the updater correctly, or the updater not running correctly in itself.  Do you have more than one !DAZ folder anywhere on your machine?  The installer scans through directories and looks for Poser runtimes, and it seems a common factor that people who have this problem have multiple runtimes with multiple !DAZ folders.  It may also be that the updater is just not running correctly for some other reason.

Pjz99,

I must fall into the some other reason category.  Only one !DAZ folder here :)

I had initially installed from a zipped backup containing my DAZ characters and a !DAZ folder.  That must have thrown off an installer somewhere down the line.

The only cr2 that I had where the blinks worked was a custom one that I saved out to have a .pmd version.  However, couldn't use that one because I need to work with Stephanie 4 over the next couple of days.

The really unusual thing about all of this is that when the problem was going on in Poser, I loaded the figure in DAZ Studio to see and no issues there.  It's certainly a puzzle that DS could link up the blink morphs correctly and Poser could not.

Yeah that is likely, I'm pretty sure the installer keeps a registry entry somewhere that retains where Poser is installed.  Is your !DAZ folder in your default runtime, along with the CR2 you're trying to load?  Are you trying to load the DAZ-installed CR2 (the one that contains the readScript commands)?  Do you have more than one runtime?

the reason I ask about multiple runtimes is that DAZ's loader is probably a bit more robust when it comes to multiple runtimes

Netherworks ( ) posted Sat, 03 July 2010 at 1:53 AM

Yeah, I have multiple runtimes (one for my products, one for Characters, one for Hair and so on - not too many).  I've been putting my !DAZ folder and those cr2s in Characters since around Poser 7.  Poser 6 and before don't like this idea but I only test python scripts in those.

Well at least it's working now and it was time consuming to have to run those installers again but I'll live through it :)

Think I'll still save out a pmd version again - it should cut down on some of the readscript searching.  That is until the next V4 sculpt arrives :P

Hmm did you get it working then?  What happened?  You ran the installer, it sounds like?

I had to remove the !DAZ folder and my DAZ People cr2s and then reinstall V4 and her sisters.  Trying to install over the existing files didn't work nor did running the bat files again - had to run from scratch.

pjz99 ( ) posted Sat, 03 July 2010 at 3:37 AM

I'll remember that, glad you got it working at least.  It seems to me the DAZ installer does not do enough of a "brute force" install - what's the point of running the installer if it picks and chooses what to install?  It should force-write everything it contains.

One thing about it, you can't just run the uninstall to remove the !DAZ folder along with everything else that was installed when V4 was installed. The uninstall ignores that folder. I found that out when I had the same problem with M4.
