I believe you can change them by hand in the .cr2 or .pz2 with a text editor. I'm not sure but you may be able to in the group editor, but I'm not certain about that one ;o).

I think you still have to do that by hand.

You can download a Python utility to enable renaming of Material Room nodes from:
www.poseworks.com - you'll find it under the 'Python' category.

Or - heheheh - you can download Bagginsbill's Matmatic and create your shaders with Python (a lot easier than it sounds, and you get awesome shaders) and you'd have complete control not only over your node name but even where you want it positioned.
Just a thought.

Wish we had a Matmatic forum... :woot: that would be awesome...

Changing the node names is a cr2 edit . Just open in wordpad or something similar. make sure your files are not saved compressed.

The actual material group names are in the obj file as a line Usemtl  xxxxxxx

Thanks so much.
I got the Poseworks python rename script but I will definitely check out matmatic.

It's annoying that after all these years of development, you still have to do so many things manually editing .cr2's. I wonder why SmithMicro doesn't fix such things ...

Maybe because the majority of users never even think of needing to edit a .cr2 or change the name of a material? ;o). It's normally only content makers that do that sort of thing ;o).

I rather prefer having the option to edit a .cr2, vs being stuck with some of the files in DS which are binary and you can't tweak anything if something isn't working to your liking. To me, having things 'fixed' that way means that you have to accept what is given, and I just hate that. Kind-of like MS Windoze...

Might be that's why I run Linux...
