Subject: Dropelet don't work, or how to creat exe file of action???

alexsm ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2010 at 8:33 AM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 1:16 PM

HI.
I'm try to do Droplet from action, and they dont work, after opening the exe file what I creat, they open the Photoshp, and don't do anything, But the action is work.
What can be a problem here ? or how do Droplet (exe file of action) ?

Thanks

You don't open the droplet you created. You Drag a file or folder of images onto the droplet icon. Photoshop starts if it is not already running.

Ups, this is was my mistake :(
And if I creat at action "Opoen c:/01.jpg" , I can at some way to run it  ?
When I Play this actionn from Photoshop, is work, and I wont do it from droplet file, or some another way ?

Why would you want to create an action or droplet just to open a file?

A good working droplet is a no brainer. No searching for the right action. You don't even need Photoshop opened. A droplet will open photoshop and perform the action(s) on just those files that were dropped onto the droplet icon. It's just a more automated way of doing things you want done on a regular bases. If you create a good working action then the droplet should work equally as well.

Years ago I was doing reworking 300-500 images into avatars daily  for a chat program. They had specs for dimensions and file size. I had a series of droplets which I created. I had the first one set to run an action to set the height, sharpen the images and save in a specified folder. A second to crop the width of any image that exceeded the required width. A third to reduce the file size. By breaking it up into 3 I was able to view the images to evaluate if the 2nd and 3rd run was needed. Of course I also had to evaluate content of images. You would be amazed at what some people thought appropriate LOL.

:) this is not just for open file...  for example, one of  things what I wont to do:
for composite 3D image, I take 2 images, and put them in one document, change the blending mode, and etc, save as original image. after this changef the sizd, add my logo, and save as small image for web... and etc... So I wont to do it all auto.
one of solution of this, is drop the firs image at droplet, and all will run. but this is not so great solution,
So i searth the way, for "just put the button, and smile" :)

P.S.
If I take the dropelet, to another PC, I don't need to get with them the Action and put to Photoshp? the Droplet, have the Action in himself, and not only the location to Action in Photoshop, I right?

When creating a droplet it uses the action in Photoshop. Once the droplet is created it contains that action. You can take a droplet from one computer and use in another.

I don't think you would be able to do the whole thing as a droplet.

First thing you want to do is open image A and image B then combine them into image C with 2 layers. That can be automatically done with Photoshop (or Bridge).

In Bridge select images then Tools > Photoshop > Load Files into Photoshop Layers...

Or in Photoshop - Files > Scripts > Load Files into Stack...

You would then have to save this new 2 layer file. Once you have done that you can then work on creating your action(s) and droplet(s).

 good advice dreamer
You've always been a great source of knowledge and help in this forum for years.

i don't think i've thanked you enough

Awww thanks scott. Seems like I've been using Adobe software (and CorelDraw) forever. I had to rely on my memory for droplets though. To catch up on my upgrade to CS4 I watched a few hundred hours of CS4 videos and I don't think any of the course instructors mentioned droplets even once. Either they didn't know how they worked or didn't find them useful. My brain is busting with new info LOL.

I try delete the action from the list, and "play" the droplet, they work without action in the programm! :)
