Subject: Soccer Field

basicwiz ( ) posted Sun, 25 April 2010 at 2:34 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 11:54 PM

Anyone know of a soccer field that's Poser ready? The only one in freestuff is for Bryce plus that user's bandwidth has been exceeded for this month. There's one at ShareCG, but it's for 3DMax, and I can't get it to import.  I don't normally mind paying for what I want, but the only other one I've found on the net is $500 and I can't justify that.

Suggestions?

Um, would you like me to convert the 3DSmax one to obj for you, sir? If so, may I have the link, please?

Had a look... the format is not a true 3DSMax file, but .max, which is a proprietary (read: closed) format. There is a site online that will do the conversion for you, but they charge $2.95. Here's their URL:
max2obj.com/
Sorry I couldn't help you more - I do convert .3ds files all the time in Blender3D but Max is another story.

.max is the true 3DS MAX file format btw.  .3ds is an old format

No problem, Robyn... I've uploaded the file to them and am awaiting its return to me. Thanks for the heads up about the site.

You should really contact the original creator of the item to ask for a conversion as they're the only ones that can do it or allow others to it legally.

Did you get this sorted out?

A field is a trivial object - a rectangle. I used a Poser one-sided square, scaled up big time. I Googled for a soccer field diagram and found one that was OK to use as a texture.

Then I loaded my grass shader on it. The grass shader thread recently popped up again in this forum. If you sort by recent post date, you'll see it.

You are just too much, BB. Now if you could just come up with a goal that easily!!!!

I've uploaded the freebee to that site that translates them for a small fee. Still waiting to hear back from them.

I found a goal at sharecg, but it was in Bryce obp format - I can't convert that.

I thought about modeling one myself. Would be an interesting challenge to do it procedurally. I also posted a fishnet shader somewhere - can't remember where but it was only a couple months ago.

It would be nice to have all of your wonderful shaders posted somewhere, organized so that folks like me could find what we're looking for without bugging you. I just MIGHT accidentally learn something if I got in the habit of using shaders!!!!!

Workin on it. That's what my book (or booklets) will be - collections of all the shaders, how they work, how to expand on them, etc. Like a recipe book.

regulation half field (put in 2 and turn one around for a full field) includes a goal.

uses poser 5 materials, If your not using poser 5+ you will need to redo the texture for the goal net.

Nice Piece! Did you just make it or has it been out a while?

Nice job, TP. I'm playing around with new materials for it. It's hard to get the net to render nicely without resorting to really high render settings.

thanks.

Unfortunatelly i wasn't able to find a better way to make the net without modeling out the whole thing.
For me it wasn't such an issue because my final renders are all set really high.
