Subject: Vue 8.5 pricing structure??

thefixer ( ) posted Fri, 07 May 2010 at 1:37 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 10:04 AM

OK tell me if I'm reading this wrong please because it makes no sense to me...

Upgrade from Vue 8.4 Inf to 8.5 Infinite is £678...bloody expensive right...

Now if I upgrade from Vue 7 Inf which I also have it costs £299!!

Now please tell me where the sense is in that, 'cos I don't see it...
Maybe I'm reading it wrong...

Well, the first is the full price for the software, there is no upgrade price from 8.4 to 8.5 in this list. When I understand it right.

Yes going from 8.4 to 8.5 is quite expensive if you dont have maintenance, considering there aren't really that many improvements or fixes.

I am currently using 7 Complete still, I have been told it would be cheaper for me to wait 6 months when Vue 9 is announced to upgrade 7 Complete to 8 Complete and get 9 for free, so going to wait it out.

I am interested in Vue 8, but being 5/6 months away from a 9 announcement, its just better to wait now otherwise I will be paying twice.

Right I get all that, but it doesn't make sense...
Stay with me a bit..

There's a good chance that like me, a lot of peeps will have version 7.4 Infinite as well as 8.4, do we agree??

Now I can upgrade from 7.4 to 8.5 at the upgrade price because I still have 7.4 but I can't upgrade from 8.4 without effectively paying more than if I upgrade from 7.4.....!!
Makes no sense, why not give the 7.4 upgrade price for 8.4 too???

Ah right,

Well you are probably in the same boat as me. If you used your 7 infinite to upgrade to 8 infinite, you can no longer use your 7 infinite to upgrade to 8.5 infinite.

I tried it myself back with Vue 7, I had 6 Infinite and I upgraded to 7 complete, after deciding I actually needed Python and not that locked down Python stuff I wanted to use my 6 Infinite to upgrade to 7 Infinite, I was told as I had already used it to upgrade to 7 complete I couldn't use it again to upgrade to 8 Infinite. Which kinda sucks as they offered to "buy back" 7 complete but gave a price that would mean me paying $100 more than the 8 Infinite upgrade was in the first place!

So mate, you would have to pay full whack for the upgrade unless you had maintenance I guess :(

jonj, thanks for that, in other words they're just ripping people off again....

Where's the sense in someone who didn't upgrade to Vue 8 from 7 now getting a better deal for version 8.5 than those of us with 8.4...!!
It's bloody disgraceful...

Yeah, its a nightmare mate, thats for sure.

I have countless emails between myself and E-on regarding the upgrading but none of them got me anywhere unfortunately.

I just sent a ticket to the sales team about it..
I think it's really disgraceful that someone who didn't upgrade before gets a better deal than those that supported e-on and did upgrade each and every time despite them still having issues with some aspects of the software..
Taking the piss we call it over here....

Yeah indeed, I am in Devon mate :) lol

I have tried that before mate, wanted to speak to the supervisors/managers etc, but never got anywhere to be honest, you might as well save your blood pressure :)

I just bought the maintenance other week (ya C3D sales, only a little but hell, it's a lot for me)
So I goit the maintenance, thus 8.5 and 9 when it comes out.

as I have repeatedly said, I think the multitude of versions make it too damn complex for folks to work out upgrades :(

want sucky prices? go see how much it would cost me to upgrade CS4  Extended ot CS5 extended, and compare the USA prices to the UK price for that...Adobe SUCKS BALLS!! :cursing:

I had that 30 day maintenance deal because I upgraded to Vue 8 from Vue 7 infinite I just got the 8.5 upgrade before time ran out the 30 days is up tomorrow.   It seems those that support a company gets crapped on. It's the same for Poser people who have bought the next version of poser get hosed as those who are versions behind get the deal.

I used to be so high on e-on but as time goes on I become less and less a fan. Personally I am coming to a place where I think one should just stick with the older versions of some of these softwares because the newer ones seem to lack in many ways.

Can anybody explain me WHY you all say that the update from 7 or 6 is cheaper?

Buy maintenance for $295 and get 8.5 and 9 (probably) for just this price. What is wrong with this?

I can't talk for the infinite people, but you can't get maintenance for Complete and below.

For the non Infinite user there is no 8.5 update.

Yeah, I was aware of that, I was just pointing it out for people reading this thread who may have thought Maintenance was for every version of Vue.

Which technically if they scaled the pricing they could do I would have thought.

I'll tell you what is wrong with that Wabe....
Firstly... I don't want a maintenance plan, never have wanted it, they are just trying to force it onto us with this method..
**
Secondly
*..Because I purchased Vue 8 when it came out, any maintenance plan I purchse now will only be valid for 9 Months before I have to stump up even more cash..

As usual e-on are ripping loyal users off, some of us have just had enough of it...

I'll wait till 9 is released.  Haven't got the spare cash right now anyway.

I also think we should get a 'loyalty' reward.  I have upgraded every time since version 4.

Would be nice if we got a bigger discount for each previous version we have bought

Okay -- here's the skinny about WHY someone w/Vue 7 gets a cheaper upgrade. if you are already on Vue 8 (whatever version) - they've gotten money from you and gotten you on board w/their latest releases fairly recently.  If you're still clinging to Vue 6 or 7 its been a while since they have gotten either your cash or your buy in on their latest platform - if they dont get you on board you coupd go out and find some other solution for your scenery creation - hence the BIGGER enticement to upgrade.  Its really that simple.  And remember, for e-on, you only have an upgrade range of 2 versions before you are no longer eligible to upgrade at all.

I was out of the product cycle myself since Vue 4! up until this year.  E-on did a "hey you used to be one of our people" intro sales at the begining of the year that got me back on board w/some serious discounts. (to the tune of Vue 8 complete at this point).

From what I understand about the maintenance approach, they want a tight and guaranteed user base and a tight financial estimate to anchor the devlopment cycle of their product. That's why it exists to begin with.

wabe ( ) posted Sun, 09 May 2010 at 2:45 AM

Let's see it simply this way. Upgrade from Infinite 8 to 8.5 is $295. They call it maintenance, you call it update. It is the cheapest price in the pricelist as far as I can see.

One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.

thefixer ( ) posted Sun, 09 May 2010 at 3:50 AM

Ok I've already said this, but I'll say it again because you seem to have missed it...

I could pay for a 12 Months maintenance package as you say, except that:

  1. It would actually be valid for only 9 Months due to e-on's weird way of doing business, thereby meaning I have to stump up even more cash in December.

  2. I don't agree with maintenance on principle, I don't see I should pay for solutions that should be available for free when you buy the software..

By not offering the upgrade to Infinite users, they are forcing us to take the maintemance route, it stinks of corporate bullying...

Injustice will be avenged.

FALCON2 ( ) posted Sun, 09 May 2010 at 7:35 AM

Good points all.  IMO I really do believe that when you buy a piece of software that you should receive all updates from that version until the next full version is released. I've gotten so used to how E-on does things that I put that aside :(   For me, I am completely stuck at this juncture since I have merely Vue 8 complete.  8.4 is the end for my side of things (up to my current beta which - crossing fingers - I hope they address at least some of the outstanding issues w/8.4).

I really want to be using infinite, but given the situation and available plans, will probably just wait until 9.0 is released to make that leap. Then I'll have to re-weigh the entire question of 'maintenance'.
