Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 13 3:49 pm)
The most likely source of trouble is the cloth between the figure and the prop.
It will either be that they are too close and the simulation can't solve for the collision offset properly to both of them (which you might be able to rectify by reducing that value) or the figure and prop geometries actually intersect (which is an absolute no-no for the simulator, and once you cure that you'll be in the situation of needing to get an acceptable collision offset and geometry seperation as previously mentioned).
Quote - has anyone done this before?
I did one similar, with A4 lying on the ground rather than on a pedestal, but I guess the principle is the same. I just used the HiResTableCloth (in Poser 8 primitives). I used the render for my recent gallery image Ephialtes, so you can see if it's similar to what you are attempting.
This was a first experiment in dynamic cloth for me, and I found the simulation quite easy to set up. To begin with, I just accepted the default cloth dynamics properties. I set the cloth to collide with A4 Body, obviously, and with the GROUND plane. I also set cloth self-collision on, so the folds would not intersect, and Object vertex against cloth polygon, as there were some fairly tight curves for the cloth to drape over (e.g. nipples).
Poser crashing is clear, but can you explain what you mean by "it just won't work". What goes wrong, when it doesn't crash?

Edit: oops, I forgot to tag it, sorry.

IsaoShi, this looks great :)
But why tag it with nudity? Yes she's probably nude, but it's all covered with the cloth - just as clothes covers our nude bodies...

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
The problem is as nruddock says.
The way I do this is to position the pedestal at -5 on whatever axis is suitable at the start of the simulation and bring it back to zero at the final frame, this way works every time for me.
The critical part is getting your axis right, usually x or z but could be y but that would be unusual...

I did something similar for a tutorial in 3D Artist magazine, using a primitive square prop; once the simulation had run, I exported/imported the prop as an obj model:

i'm trying to do a reclined v4 with dynamic cloth sort of draped over her, she is lying on a pedestal ....
i use collide against her and the pedestal for the cloth ....
i dont know what i'm doing wrong, i dont have issues with this when v4 is standing up in a normal pose but when shes reclined or lying down it just wont work or my poser crashes .....
has anyone done this before? and if so what are the correct steps for this to work?
the cloth i am using is fantasy art2 ....
thanks in advance
