Micturn, "your turn" is very fine!!!

Meisiekind ( ) posted Sun, 09 May 2010 at 5:17 AM

micturn - You are not late at all! Wonderful shot to start off with! Isn't it just so amazing how one all of a sudden see the shadows and not just the subject! Great one!

Carin.
Ugly indeed That lady gives me the creeps.
Both the spiders webs that i have photographed has been destroyed, but not by me. I won't dare to go to close to them. I learned my lesson as i nearly lost my log due to a spider bite.

I took this today and didn't even realize it was a "shadow shot," until much later.  I was more interested in grabbing bunches of these, throwing them up in the air and watching them spiral down like drunken helicopters.  I didn't even realize there were shadows in this until looking at it to post later...but I decided, *nah, post it in the forum challenge thread instead.*

Flannelman ( ) posted Sun, 09 May 2010 at 4:12 PM

Wow, this just gets better and better. Hats off to all that have joined in the spirit of the challenge.  .

Ok, last one for me too. Shot this macro last night and tweaked the contrast a bit. I think kborg had a great idea about using a flashlight. I have had some fun results that way. I just went back through this thread and was suprised at how much i missed the first time. Again well done ya'll. fm ![](http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/art/emoticons/wink.gif)

Shadows on Strike

 It was bound to happen,
Sooner or later… I mean, look at the work load.
Come with me, Follow close. Don’t tarry Stand still! Be right here.
Don’t go far. Stretch, way over to here. Geeze you’re in the way, move now.

So they struck Yes, on strike.
I’m talking Line walking,
Sign holding,
Ain’t gonna go to work no more,
Strike

And I can’t blame them.
Working day and night yes, even far into the night.
Don’t tell me you didn’t see them at night
Yea it was dark, But they were discernable In the small glow of moon.
Or stars,
Or electronic green lights of the resting computers,
Printers, monitor screens, LED alarm clocks,
All night running television sets,
The hall light....

And if you did see them,
Waking, being startled
By their ungainly night shape
You shudder
Before realizing it’s only them
Then hold them in scorn for your own lack
of understanding.
(you know that had to hurt)

Even at high noon When you think they weren’t there
For those few moments of break
Just lift a foot, next noon
And look under it,
There they are
Or well, they would be,
If they hadn’t gone on strike…

Don’t tell me you’ve not noticed
The two dimensional world this morning
Everything flat, no shading
No vast vistas into the plains With the mountain’s shadow crawling across it.
No darkness under the forest trees
Put your hand in front of the bulb Look at the wall…
No puppet there, in shape of a dog barking.
Look at the dog, for Pete’s sake! Not even a shadow on her wagging tail!

I’ve no idea where they’ve gotten off to,
Do you?
I do know I want them back. Now!

Do you think they’ll negotiate?
Can we get them to sit at the table?
Work out terms?

Gosh, I wonder what it will be like
To see my shadow, face to face...

They say a picture is worth a thousand words...

So where do they go when a photograph leaves you speechless?

LovelyPoetess ( ) posted Sun, 09 May 2010 at 6:45 PM

kgb, love your spider shot, I can understand your dislike of them from your experience, but I find them fascinating creatures.

micturn, nice capture of the red with all the subtle grey/browns and shadows

Mies, love the peacock and his shadow, they are lovely critters

Chipka, I really had to chuckle when reading your post, we were doing that same throwing up of the 'chopters just Friday. my deck is covered with them. But that aside, your shot is stunning in it's detail.

Flannelman, you did manage to give me the heebee geebees with that shot, grasshoppers are one of the few bugs I don't really find to my liking. I think it's because you can never tell which way they are going to jump. Although it always seems they jump toward me instead of away...

They say a picture is worth a thousand words...

So where do they go when a photograph leaves you speechless?

This caught my eye and my camera.

MrsLubner ( ) posted Sun, 09 May 2010 at 10:43 PM

Tom, that's almost as creepy as Flannelman's. :-) From the deep shadows... and Chip, that's like looking at a maze... only if I look long enough, I get trapped in the intricacy and can't fine a way out...

@ Wild_child - wonderful shadow of this little critter! Perfect for the challenge!

@ Christo - Wow - the towers and fungus are amazing! Wonderful shadows in both! Just remember it is 3 images per member! I regard the towers as the same image and will only count them as one!

I have tried to take some shadow images of my Mother's Day flowers today! However, I'm so weak and jittery and the stupid tripod of mine is rather useless! At least the shadow is in focus!

Very inspirational!

I will be back... soon!

Clive

dochtersions ( ) posted Wed, 12 May 2010 at 3:42 PM

Dear Carin, the flower is such beautiful. Hope you feel better soon.!!
I can say that I know of, to feel weak and shaky, because I suffer on PTSD.
And can operate with difficulty my camera, I always stop breathing then (automatically, because of the extremely stress ;-)) .
But just shooting provides so many distractions and fun.
Sorry for telling this about myself.
I'm sorry for the KGB and Helle (and myself).  Because we have reached our maximum.
👎 just kidding
Best wishes for all of you from Mies.

helanker ( ) posted Wed, 12 May 2010 at 3:51 PM

My first for the month - a late start - no excuses other than a four-lettered word: w-o-r-k.

I have just had the most fun in two hours by stepping up to the challenge!

This is a thermometer, the temperature somewhere between 20°C and 22°. I have a 500W lamp which provided the light source.

Cheers,
Clive

I was busy playing with a lit candle as a source for my third submission when I spotted this hanging on the wall.  I was lucky that it just hung there on its points when I tried and moved the candle to suit.  A tripod and remote trigger was a must!

I am happy with this as it was all done in camera - I just resized and did linear contrast in PS.

Back soon, Clive

helanker ( ) posted Wed, 12 May 2010 at 4:59 PM

AAAWW That is super beautiful, that star. I love it.

cfulton ( ) posted Wed, 12 May 2010 at 5:06 PM

My third and last post. Meet Charlie, sitting on white mounting board and looking at a dragonfly in the candle light. It was a 13 sec. exposure at f/4 which I de-saturated in PS.

I was inspired by all the posts thus far and it is not even half way through the month!

I look forward to seeing more!

Cheers,

Clive
