Subject: moving Vue from Mac to PC

sirenia ( ) posted Sat, 15 May 2010 at 10:12 AM · edited Wed, 23 October 2024 at 2:51 PM

Hi all,

I'm seriously thinking to switch over to the PC for as what Vue concerns.

Currently i have Vue Infinite 7.21-04 (build 39290) running on a Power Mac G5 OSX 10.4.9 dual 2.3GHz with 4.5GB ram in it (this is a 32 bit system) and a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 graphics card.

I also have a PC with Windows 7 Professional Intel Core 2 duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz with 8GB ram (this is a 64 bit system) and an ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics card.

1: does anyone has have any experience with E-on for switching to another platform (think licencing here)
2: would this also work if i upgraded to Vue 8.5 Infinite at the very same time ?
3: is the graphics card from the PC sufficient enough to run Vue ?
4: could i move Poser 6 also over to the PC ?

Thanks
Wim

ps: not gonna leave you Mac guys out there... but currently for Vue i think the PC side is way better for now 😊

You can switch what platform your download version is on your e-on account.  If you have the DVD, then it is already has both Mac/PC versions on it.

Best way to test the video card is to try out the PLE version.

Thanks Peggy,

Installing Vue 5 infinite on my PC right now. This is a 32 bit version, so will it change to 64 bit after i apply all the upgrades/updates trough 7.x via downloads ?

Thanks
Wim

I don't think Vue 5 is 64 bit.  Vue 6 Infinite is, but DO NOT RUN THE UPDATE IF YOU ARE USING WINDOWS 7!!!  It can and will wipe your hard drive.  E-on has a notice about this on the update page, but a few have tried and found the hard way that bad things happen.

Aaargh :scared:

You 're scaring me here ! Where does it say on the e-on pages ? Can 't find it.

I installed Vue5inf from the cd, downloaded the Vue6inf upgrade and installed it (which put itself in the 64 bit folder, so no worries here) and just finished downloading the Vue7inf upgrade but not installed this one yet.

How can i install without wiping my HD's ??

Vue 6 Infinite Updates **Warning!

Updates for Windows are not supported on Windows 7. Applying the update or a language patch on an unsupported OS may result in severe data loss.**

This is the warning message when you click on the Get Update button for Vue 6 Infinite.  This applies to the update patch for Vue 6 Infinite only - not the upgrade from Vue 5 to Vue 6 Infinite.

As  far as I know you can install Vue on two computers, whether they are PC or MAC, as long as you use only one at the time. The Vue 7 infinite installer already comes with a Mac and a PC version embeded, and the serial will work for both platforms. Find the "Setup.exe" in the Vue 7 infinite Install folder and you are ready to go.

Cheers!

Ah okay, so i won 't update but only install the upgrades 5 -> 6 and 6 -> 7 and apply the latest updates to 7.

Oh and crappercrappercrap... gonna have to download EVERYTHING again from Cornucopia and others plants & stuff i bought over time (that 's an awful lot !!)

Using Vue on the two computers will only be at first for reference to check what i have installed so far but that 's it.

Thanks
Wim

Probably installing V7i, and supply the V6i serial during installation will do...
