Well the problem is these Japanese firms contract out their games to western teams that have little or no experience and are essentially cheap. Just because a developer is western doesn't automatically mean they're any good.
Also the big Japanese publishers realise that they cannot survive with just serving a shrinking domestic market. They want to make games that are targetted to western gamers,with out really having a clue what that is.
So western produced games like Bionic Commando and Dark Void turn out into unplayable messes,but it looks like the japanese developed Lost Planet 2 is just as bad.
I grew up playing Japanese games,but I feel they are losing their identity.
