Subject: i7 6 core cpu with vue 8 complete

ddaydreams ( ) posted Sun, 16 May 2010 at 10:33 AM · edited Sat, 02 November 2024 at 9:01 PM

Is anybody using a i7 6 core cpu on a 64 bit windows system running Vue 8 Complete?

Vue Complete has an 8 core limit on a 64 bit bit machine.
However I'm not sure if that limit means real cores or real and virtual.

I have Vue 8 Complete and was wondering if I get a 6 core i7 64 bit machine, Would would Vue 8 Complete report 12 cores?

On Infinite I would expect it to show as 12 cores because 6 are real and six are virtual cores.
Just as a quad shows 8 now. Infinite has unlimited core support.

Thanks
Frank

I won't be able to really answer your question, I run vue 8.5 xStream but I can give you some info about the performances

Running at 4.2 ghz on air with a noctua nh-d14, my score with vuemark is 345, which is around 3.5 times faster than my qx6700 was) so it's definitively a nice processor.
Right now only  a dual xeon 5680 (which would be roughly four times more expansive due to the processors themselves, the ECC memory and the motherboard) is faster (about 1.6 times faster)

My new i7 930 powered machine has four processors, but Vue 8 Complete sees 8 CPUs and certainly uses them as Task Manager shows only too well !!

Hope that helps.

Thanks for mention that.
I'm still hoping that someone will know the answer to what I had asked.

I'm still wondering if a i7 6 core will be seen as 12 in Complete or if the 6 will only show as 8 because the 8 core limitations of Complete.

I was pointing out that hyper threading means each physical core is seen as two CPUs by Vue.

The product comparison table says 8 CPUs for 64 bit machines, that's why I went for the i7 930 rather than the one you are considering.

I suspect that the 8 CPU limit of vue 8 complete is referring to physical cores not the virtual ones.

But I won't  know for sure until someone with an i7 6 core running on Vue 8 Complete chimes in says how many cpus are showing. It's either going to top out at 8 which would be 6 physical and 2 virtual.
Or it's going to be 6 physical and 6 six virtual total 12 if the Vue 8 Complete only counts the 6 physical cores towards the 8 cpu limit.

Because it would be waste of money to get a six core i7 if V8C can't use it fully.

if a 4 phsyical 8 logical cpu is seen as 8 cpus in vue, why would a 6 physical 12 phsycial only be seen as 6?

perhaps you should ask e-on for a definitive answer.
