Curvy 3D 1.6 for starters, for those of you who'd like to have a crack at a different kind of modelling :)

A bunch of Daz Dinosaurs and a building (can't remember which)

 I have used it.
Nice toy.
It was the free version bundled into some 3D-related magazine years back.
I couldn't get control over the shape creation, though.  My mouse would happily zoom about making all sorts of weird and sometimes wonderful meshes.

Looks easier to use than Zbrush and the price is extremly nice. Downloading the free demo right now for version 2.

The one on the cover disk is the full 1.6 version, I think they are up to version 2 now.

May 2010 has Goblinz, the Render Studio Bundle, a few 3ds models and clothed male figure. I picked it up for Goblinz.

Is 3D World different than 3D Hobby? I want your 3D training videos for Coat ,but 3D Hobby also mentions something about Curvy 3D.

I am not sure if 3D Hobby is a  mag you download or it is sent to your physical address?

Confused (an easy state for me) help please.

Hey LilWolf

3D World and 3D Hobby are different magazines.  3D World is in print but 3D Hobby is a sownload for the moment.  When we get bigger volumes it will becomeviable to do a print version then.

The videos are a part of the extra download you get with the current issue, along with some other bits and pieces from some kind contributers.

Hope that helps :) let me know if you have any more questions.

John :)

Got it! Thank you!

FightingWolf ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 3:39 PM

I just took a look at the software and I want to make sure I understand what I read.  This software allows you to sculpt a 3D model by drawing on it?  I don't do any modeling but this sounds really cool since I like to sketch and have been thinking about getting into again.

Are there other programs that do this?

gagnonrich ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 4:05 PM

Bryce can convert a grayscale map to a 3D object "similar" to Poser's displacement/bump maps except that the end product is not a rendered effect, but an actual mesh.

Darkedge,
I have DVD130 from 3D world June 2010 and wish as I might I cannot find your Scorpion contribution. Perhaps an upcomming issue? It looks very nice in the little shot on the forum, do you have a larger render?

DarkEdge ( ) posted Sun, 23 May 2010 at 10:51 PM

It's coming up in the next issue. I do have a larger pic but Rendy doesn't like the file size...trust me, it's way kwel.
I also have 30 minutes of video instruction on rigging it in Poser too. 😉

Awesome, can't wait for both. I haven't rigged an imported mesh before, so that will be fun to learn and the model looks way yummy.
