Subject: M4 morphs are not working. :(

Robmobius ( ) posted Wed, 26 May 2010 at 5:46 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 11:52 AM

Hello again,

Sorry, back for more noob help, but I've been driven mad! :)

I've set up an external runtime for my files (thanks to you guys:)), everything is working nicely except for my M4 Morphs (and a few other M4 bits). :( I try to apply them to the M4 base, and nothing happens at all.

So I've checked the installation wiki and it says that M4 should be installed - something like this:

"For Poser, the path should end with the 'Poser' folder.  If you choose another folder, like 'runtime' or 'Downloads,' the file hierarchy will not be written to the correct folders and subfolders, and consequently, Michael 4.0 will not work right."

If that is the case is there any way I can get him running properly in my runtime folder?

Lastly, when I was originally installing some M4 stuff to my Runtime "M4 folder" (as well as M4 base/M4 Morphs, etc.) it would not let me use a poser format per se, so I went with the Daz format instead. Could this affect it also? (I did this, as I saw someone else had a similar problem on installing daz products and they went the Daz format rout and it worked for them).

This was the message I was getting when trying to install:
When used with Poser TM, "Michael 4Morphs++" must be installed into the dame directory as the application executable... etc.

Funny thing is the Morphs seem to be fine for V4 and she has her own folder in runtime.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob.

Even though you are using an External Runtime (mostly likely stored on an external drive), I have found through trial and error that M4 and V4 want to be installed to the initial runtime.  Therefore if Poser is installed say on your C: drive then you should install M4 and it's associated Morphs there as well.

Once those Morphs are installed on the initial runtime, you'll be able to use the content on your external drives just fine.

I know HD space is what you are trying to save and you wish to reduce the runtimes but it was the only thing that worked for me.

Therefore, your M4 install should be...
Install Poser (Done)
Install M4
Install M4++

Then try applying the morph packages you bought that are installed on the External Runtimes.

Good Luck!

Right... Okay, that's cool.

Thanks for your help man! :)

PS - will I have to uninstall the stuff on my external runtime or can i just install the files as you said and presumably it will just overwrite the previous ones? Thanks.

Hm. I have my M4 in an external Runtime (called M4Runtime) and he works beautifully. It's placed somewhere under my Poser 7 installation (since I made it while using Poser 7) Still works like a charm in Poser 8.

Did you run the .bat file that comes with him? He needs to be initialised to work.

If that's not enough, You can try tricking it by making a blank txt file and renaming it to Poser.exe, then placing it where you want to install Mike. That usually works with the Daz installers.

Hi Trekkie girl,

It's kinda' weird as V.2 seems to be working fine.

Now that you mention it, I don't recall seeing a ".bat file". Although he was initialized. Pardon my ignorace for the .bat file Im not too sure what they are to be honest. :)

If you use the "trick poser"exe do you run it as a Daz file or can you use it as a poser file, when you get the option at the installation stage?

Thanks again for you help! :)

Online Now!

I'd run is as Poser files.  I also have a set up arrangement like TG, original installation into P7 but external to PoserPro, P8 and PP 2010.

Yaay! Thanks to you guys and gals M4 has now turned into the hulk! ;)

I did what T.G. & Q.R. said, and basically reinstalled everything but using the poser prefix - after dropping in a sneaky fake exe. Seems to be working fine now.

Anyway, many thanks for all the help I've received so far, some day I hope to be able to give a bit back when I learn Poser to a decent level. :)

Take care guys,

Rob.
