Subject: Is there an easy way to move poser characters around?

Hello

I have been meaning to ask this for a while..is there an easy way to move figures around in a scene..I have been using the xyz dials but you have to work and work those to get any movement..is there something simple like you can click someplace and the figure appears there or something.

Thank you.

Instead of turning the dials, click on the numbers at the side of 'em and type in the value you need to move the figure.

Why don't you simply use the Editing Tools on your workspace to roughly pose your model, then fine tune with the parameter dials.  And it will make it easier if you incorporate IK to anchor hands/feet for better control.

Thank you all..but is there anyway to just drag the model to where I want it to go...the models are always imported in under somebody else.

if you use the EDITING TOOLS ..TRANSLATE --- IN/OUT, and PULL this will do the trick ...but as stated abocve, make sure the body is selected, otherwise just the hip goes somewhere and the rest stays...like a rubber man

oh ..the answer to your question ... no

and i think the main reason is the fact Poser wa snever made to do big scenes in, so the movement area was meant to be quite small...and mainly for posing, etc

One way to move them around by dragging is:

  1. Switch to the Top camera and zoom in or out so that your preview window shows the figure or prop you want to move and the place where you want to move it to.

  2. Make sure you're using the Translate editing tool (the first on the left of the row of tools).

  3. Select the figure (or prop) you want to move, and if it's a figure make sure this selection is the Body part and not anyhitng like "Hip", "Abdomen", "Right Hand", etc.

  4. Hold down the shift key. As long as you hold the shift key down, your current selection will always stay selected.

  5. What this means is that you're now free to move the mouse anywhere around your preview viewport and your character/prop will move in the X and Z planes (it won't lift off or sink into the ground).

  6. When your figure/prop is where you want it, you can release the shift key, release the mouse button, and you can now pick another character to move or do whatever else is needed.

It's not as quick as being able to select something and then click elsewhere to instantly transport the object to that position, but it's as near as I've found given Poser's interface.

Yes, thank you Johnpf. I have been doing it the fiddly way and getting frustrated.

Correction: The Translate tool is the third from the left in the row of Editing Tools, not the first as I mention in the post above. Sorry about that, but I can't edit my post now.

Thank you all.  I had tried the translate tool but was doing it wrong the figure just stretched out.

ROFL A spam post. And apparently the 153th of them - in one day! Wow!

To answer the OP's question: If you need to move several things at once, it's a lot easier if you parent everything to something. Usually, I load the Poser Ball and use that as a "handle" Once it's parented to the ball, you move it all by moving the ball (probably obvious L)

It's easy to parent things by using the hierachy window and simply drag everything onto the ball.
