Subject: Bryce-->DAZ3-->Carrara8-->Noob Questions...

GreenHawke ( ) posted Sun, 13 June 2010 at 9:25 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 11:39 PM

 Hi all!

About 2 years ago I started playing with Bryce (5.5).  Got DAZ Studio3 with it and started playing with that a few months ago.  I just bought Carrara8 online.  I am TOTALLY lost in Carrara!  Tried to find some video tuts, but found nothing I could understand...  I have been able to use the other DAZ software (Bryce and DAZ Studio3) with no tuts and no guides, but I feel like a complete idiot when it comes to Carrara.

Can any one suggest a tut or guide that might help?  I'm not a pro (obviously) and have had SO MUCH FUN working with the other programs!  I am profoundly disappointed...

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Kevin

To my knowledge, absolutely the best series of tutorials for Carrara is done by Mark Bremmer (he is the moderator here) and is available on VTC. The tutorials have not been updated to C8 yet, but if you are new to Carrara, C7 tutorials should have plenty of information to get you started. You can get a monthly membership to view the tutorials on VTC, and they have some introductory chapters available to watch for free, so you can see if you like the style.

I bought Mark's C6 tutorials back when C7 wasn't available yet, and I don't know what I would've done without them. I am thinking I am due for the update when C8 ones come out, even though I've been using Carrara for a few years now.

Hello GreenHawke

You've come to the right place.  There are a ton of Tutorial vids for Carrara on the net and not that I'm promoting anyone in particular, but Mark Bremmer has an Excellent video series covering the basics and some not so basic stuff which is available from VTC.  Personally I found that series a bit pricey, but there are a lot of free tutorials out there covering just about every aspect of Carrara.  Most of the links can be found in this forum or the Carrara forum at Daz

Carrara is a much more powerful and flexible program than Daz Studio or Bryce.  It started life as the old Ray Dream Studio program a long long time back and has evolved into Carrara.  Until very recently it was owned and put out by Creative Labs.  DAZ purchased it from them and has been steadily improving it through the last two versions.  I started working with the original Ray Dream Studio way back in late 1996.  I have used just about every version, but I still am amazed by how much I don't yet know about the program.  The best thing I like about Carrara is the great intuitive interface.  It is very very user friendly compared to other packages that are even close to comparable.  It only takes a short time to get used to.

I agree, Mark's tutorials are the best out there.  He does things in a logical manner and is very clear and precise in his lessons.

I hope you enjoy using Carrara.  It really is a fun program to use.

Thanks for the replies!  Can any one suggest a really good BASIC tutorial?  I mean one that can tell me about the lay out and processes that is not overly technical?  I am a trauma nurse (by trade), so I'm not dumb (not much, any way!) but I need something very basic to get me rolling...

Again, THANK YOU ALL!

Kevin

The free ones are the interface introduction ones, so they should give you what you need.

 Thanks for the props folks!

Kevin, this is a great forum to ask questions in. So, just post back when you are in a "How do I do this?" stage and some friendly answers will come bouncing back.

Mark

Thanks very much!  I'm very excited about Carrara.  I'm quite sure I'll be back soon with some questions...

Thanks to all!

Hi GreenHawke,

I got bit by the Carrara bug because of the 3D Artist magazine, I was able to upgrade for an insanely cheap price, the current version I have is Carrara 6 Pro and hope to upgrade to 8 Pro eventually.  I've been doing the same things you are asking for, which is to watch the free tutorials on VTC, experiment within the program itself, ask questions here and just dive in and do stuff and see how they turn out.

Mark's Tutorials are excellent.  The ones at Infiniteskills is also very good, they are different in there own ways.  To get you started you could  go through the free starter ones might help as well.  http://www.infiniteskills.com/training/learning-carrara-8.html  It is on sale at Daz till the 1st of July currently.

Another place is the daz forums has some stickies of various tutorials around.
http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=66182  if you go to the forum top there are a couple of other threads of tutorials and weekly workshops
