Subject: Fighting Back Against the HACK!

If you're running IE*, here's the fix! Just go to Tools>Internet Options>Security>Restricted Sites> and add http://mybookface.net/ to the blocked sites!

Once that site is blocked you won't be redirected to it anymore. It just worked for me anyway.

I will try that in Firefox

Sam- LostInSpaceMan is referring to a problem when browsing the gallery- if you hit the back button sometimes it takes you to mybookface.net or sometimes a Russian Post Board. Glad it is not just MY computer.

Yep, I had to do that earlier. Works great.

MagnusGreel ( ) posted Sun, 13 June 2010 at 3:53 PM

Firefox users - use Noscript https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722/ to block it. (recommended addon along with Adblock)

This is a very annoying problem!  But I think the OP's suggestion is the answer!  I hope, I hope!

vincebagna ( ) posted Sun, 13 June 2010 at 3:56 PM

Is there another way to block such a site in Firefox without the help of an addon?

vincebagna ( ) posted Sun, 13 June 2010 at 4:00 PM

Hmmm... guess what? I just wanted to edit my above post and get redirected to the mybookface site. No matter what i tried (back button or the rendo link from my favorites) i get to that site. I had to close down my browser to come back. Bad bad.
Rendo should do something or they will get completely hacked.

So "they" have hacked the forum menu/html surface ? How miserable.

OblivionKing ( ) posted Sun, 13 June 2010 at 4:25 PM

Yes and now they as trying to push pop ups through. My Foxfire is blocking it but I think I will remove my sensitive personal information until this is fixed. Cause what else can they see while they are hacking the website.

Don't worry-I am American- and I dont get it. I think it may have to do with a TV commercial-but as a Poser/Vue/Lightwave and READING addict- I have not watched my TV in months.

dphoadley ( ) posted Sun, 13 June 2010 at 5:07 PM

Other than the National Geographic channel on Israel's Cable TV network, I haven't watched TV in years.  Occassionally , I manage to pick up certain BBC series on line, but that's about it.
My son is into Basketball, especially the European Cup Matches each year, but I sure don't.  The last game I watched was between Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Real Madrid on TV, played at Yad Eliyahu stadium.

I would watch the National Geo Channel-but I canceled my cable years ago-since I rarely watched. Oh well! I have never SEEN American Idol! What a loss! :-)

Adblock Plus & NoScript should be built in as they are essential these days, no rogue redirects or phantom pop-ups for me thanks to those 2 little add-ons.

bagginsbill ( ) posted Mon, 14 June 2010 at 6:06 AM

Some believe it is connected only to navigating backward.

It is not. There are thousands of users for whom the redirect to the hacker site is instant and happens as soon as you open any page at Rendo. It happened to me yesterday. I could not read anything. Not the front page, not the store, not any thread in this forum.

People like that are unable to come in at all. They cannot report what is happening to them. Is that clear or not? There are thousands of users who are unable to log into rendo at all, and as a consequence are unable to TELL us this is happening to them.

I was able to figure out how to block the hack myself, and now I'm here. I was NOT able to read this thread in order to learn to block the hack - I had to figure out how before I could even see this thread.

The problem is much bigger than it appears to those who are talking here.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Larry F ( ) posted Mon, 14 June 2010 at 6:17 AM

Yes, I had about an hour of difficulty trying to log in.  Kept getting that mybookface page.  Rebooted, flushed, tweaked, switched browsers, machines, etc., even went to next door neighbor's, came back, FINALLY got logged on.  LOL!

This kind of experience sure gets one off "automatic" with such repetetive tasks (log on, read, surf, shop, etc.).  I'm still not sure it's safe to buy anything right now.

Trying to get in via the Home Page yesterday took me to the Russian site in IE8, FireFox and Chrome.

It all seems fine today.

Attached Link: Mozilla Add-Ons

I know this has nothing to do with Israel, Shaquille O'Neal, pandas, or mis-reading someone's signature line, but...

For the best protection when using Firefox, I recommend the following:
-AdBlock Plus: blocks all the advertisements on a site. You can set the options to temporarily allow a site or whitelist it.

-FlashBlock: blocks all the Flash plug-ins on a site. Very helpful for sites like Yahoo which use annoying, flashing banner ads to advertise semi-shady mortgage sites. The downside is that you have to whitelist every site where you do want Flash to run, such as YouTube.

-NoScript: blocks all JavaScript from running on a page, including redirects and other bad code. Like FlashBlock, the minor downside is that you have to whitelist the good sites, such as Renderosity, DAZ, Amazon, YouTube, etc. However, if you hit any sites that are suspicious, the NoScript automatically blocks any scripts.

I not only recommend these add-ons, but I use them myself. 😄

P.S. Some people report that web pages load faster with these add-ons since these annoyances don't have to be loaded or displayed. 😉

Never saw a problem yesterday at all.  Of course my net connection was spotty due to weather interfering with the satellite, so coincidence might have come into play.

This is definitely a good idea anyway, and should be done on a regular basis, regardless of hacking attempts ;)
