Subject: Anyone suddenly having problems with Daz installers?

drifterlee ( ) posted Wed, 16 June 2010 at 4:55 PM · edited Mon, 07 October 2024 at 11:27 AM

Hi: Is Anyone suddenly having problems with Daz installers? I just made two purchases, DMR Ella and the free Wizardly Staves. Neither will install. I get a "Cannot creat pixmap..." error then the intaller shuts down. I cantacted Daz, but will have to wait. I wondered if anyone else has this problem. Thanks, Sherrie

Haven't bought anything from DAZ recently but I did notice the Bitrock installers they were using recently seemed to be much slower than the older ones they used previously.

I just  installed the Wizardly Staves to Poser 7 without any problems.

Maybe you can  try re-downloading the files while you are waiting for a reply?

I did redownload them. That's the problem. They must be getting corrupted.

Bummer! I hope Daz gets back to asap.

Maybe someone has hacked the DAZ site with an uninstall script.

What operating system are you using? I've had problems on my computer with Vista, but have always been able to install to desktop then manually move the files to their proper locations.

Lucifer_The_Dark ( ) posted Thu, 17 June 2010 at 2:24 AM

Vista & 7 both have UAC activated by default which can cause problems with installers of all types, the best way to get round UAC (apart from switching it off, not a good idea) is to do what YngPhoenix said, install them to either the desktop or a dummy folder then move the files where you actually want them.

Of course if the installers are actually corrupted that's not going to help in the slightest.

drifterlee, I downloaded the free staves and was able to actually install them directly into Poser 7. So now I'm not really sure what's happening in your situation, I know how frustrating it can be and am sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Shot in the dark here, have you checked your system for Malware or Virus lately?

I waited a few hours, and after trying to install them for 10 times they finally worked. Very weird. Thanks for all your help!

YngPhoenix ( ) posted Thu, 17 June 2010 at 4:40 PM

Glad you got them to work.

I wish there was some way to stop getting the message under Windows 7 where it asks if the program installed correctly.  It seems to be only with the BitRock installers.

I get that message on Win7 64 Pro for just about everything I install. I just click it out of the way and move on. It would be nice to turn it off completely.
