Subject: Vue xStream Terrain Editor in 3dsMax

cmckenzie ( ) posted Wed, 30 June 2010 at 6:25 AM · edited Tue, 11 February 2025 at 8:48 AM

Is anyone having a problem seeing max content in the terrain editor. When I create a terrain in a 3dsMax scene and try to edit I can only see the terrain in the terrain editor which makes sculpting to existing Max content impossible. If I export the 3dsMax object to the stand alone version of xStream and activate the terrain editor I can see all objects in the scene.

i don't understand the purpose of xStream if you cant see host application native objects within the editing modes of the software. Is this the way the software is supposed to work?

Work fine for me. Check if you using Open GL , what version. I found that some video cards are not prefforming as well.

Thanks...fyi technical support posted the following:

Hi Clive,

Max content does not display in the terrain editor. To make this happen is not an easy fix, but it's something we are looking at for future development.

The workaround would be to create the terrain in Vue standalone and import the Max object. Work with the terrain in Vue, save the scene and open it from the Vue xStream menu in Max.

Best regards.

sry, i missread part about native objects. Checked after , hmm i can see, read again your post... found that my reading skill need to be improved. I created refferance objects in Vue, that not visible in render.

AS Vladimir said, either create a matching dummy object that you can load in Vue and do your sculpting, or export to Vue the object that needs s culpting around it. xStream isn't a plugin in the ususal sense of the word, it's more like 2 apps working together, Vue is visible inside Max, but not the other way around.

Thanks

I have tried doing this but I am having a problem importing vue objects and scenes back into max. When I import all vue content comes in really small. I have units in both  applications set to millimeters but that seems to have no effect on the import. All vue objects are centred about 0,0,0 and have to be rescaled. Am I doing something wrong?
