Poser Technical F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 04 2:47 am)
Welcome to the Poser Technical Forum.
Where computer nerds can Pull out their slide rules and not get laughed at. Pocket protectors are not required. ;-)
This is the place you come to ask questions and share new ideas about using the internal file structure of Poser to push the program past it's normal limits.
New users are encouraged to read the FAQ sections here and on the Poser forum before asking questions.
Are you rendering with AO on? It kinda look like AO "reflections" (for lack of a better work)
I've usually only seen them where two parts intersect though (as where a figure lying on the floor actually touches the floor ect)
Perhaps try posting this in the regular Poser forum, lot more people there :)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
This is a classic problem, actually. Your "rimlight" is almost directly behind her head and is probably infinite or a spot with shadows disabled so,, gets picked up by the "alt specular" part of the script and leaves you with this odd effect.
Just grab the offending light and shift it a few dozen degrees to her leftb (our right). Using a "tuned" spot will eliminate the unjustified specular (hair should shadow it out) and leave you with something more believable.
Someone in another Renderosity forum suggested that it was a light without shadows, too, and suggested turning on the shadows for that light to fix it. Which kinda worked -- at least on the face -- though it wasn't the light I expected it would be. So, I think your analysis is right on. Thanks.
I may try your version of the solution, too, as there's still part of the figure -- her crotch and inner thigh - that seems to pick up a reflection no matter how many shadows I turn on in the current light setup. My theory is that the slight "shine" (don't know the technical word) the script gives to the skin just "peaks" in that area -- as if the body were oiled and the oil was catching the light just right in that area, and reflecting as a shine.
With the light set to ray trace shadows, that shine looks more "realistic" - but the original render didn't have it. And even if I turn all the "secondary" lights off, the shine is still there, so I'm guessing it's the main light. (Didn't try turning that one off, and it already has shadows.)
It's not the worst thing in the world, but it is a bit annoying on a nude render -- which is how I've been working on this -- to have the crotch slightly "spotlighted." (Could it be a reflection from the "ground" she's standing on?)
I wondered, though, if it might have happened because I ran the shader script multiple times as I was learning. (First time it told me that I'd run it using the wrong light.)
Which brings up another question: Is there an easy way to "scrub" a skin shader (script) out of a light/figure and just start again?
I tried removing the old set of lights and putting in a new, duplicate set. But that didn't work. (Oddly enough, none of the other light setups I tried had either the "face glow" or the "crotch glow" problems.
Thanks for your help.

Not that I'm aware of. But just load the skin on using the mat pose file.. I mean just click on your skin again from where you store it in the Pose file.
I'd leave your mainlight intact. You can find the offending light and either move it or just turn it off if no solution works. Use another camera to find it. It's not reflection.
You can set the script to reduce this effect also. "Skin Highlighting".. Or even darken alt specular in the material room.
Don't let this stuff slow you down...
Yeah, I can reload the skin/material, if that'll allow me to start again on the shader.
It's not a huge problem, as the figure won't be seen nude - unless I post it somewhere like here -- but once I find a "problem," I like to figure out what went wrong and how to solve it.
Again, thanks for your support and advice.

Don't have a lot of time to fiddle with Poser 7s guts; so I bought the [Real Skin Shader](http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=33382) and tried it out on an existing, working render.Mostly it worked, but has these strange white "outlines" in places. Can't figure out why. Changed a few settings on the script - different reflectivity, different lights. Same or similar results.
Hoping you experts can supply a simple solution. As I said earlier, too busy writing and earning a living to fiddle with complex settings much.
Please help.
Figure is V4 using Lara by RMTH. Lights are by Battle Lights by Lightworks. Rendered with Poser 7 firefly.
PS - Is it just my browser(s), or is the FAQ link on the RSS page not working?
