I got a big ad for full sail university and some other popups that my flashblock is stopping.
Renderosity must have installed a new advertising annoyance. I am on dialup and it really kills performance when it pops up.
There are at least 4 websites involved, one being some facebook site, ad.doubleclick.net, d,productsdirect.com . The others I didnt catch.
It looks like some major spamblocking will be needed because I dont want to have renderosity as a trusted site if they start allowing third party sites on the same session.
Perhaps a rendo admin can give us an assurance that renderosity management indemnify the third party sites ?
Oh great it figures. How about giving us some way to get rid of that crap eh? because I can tell you I will never click any links on it because nothing Mark mentioned is something I will go to.
It will just make people who don't want to deal with it and people who are on dialup who get lagged to hell and back by them not even want to bother coming here.
What do you mean pop up blockers cant seem to block it? Mine do. I've never seen a popup ad here. Or pretty much anywhere for that matter. I have several running so don't know which one is the awesome one, but they work.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Don't know what to do, I installed the FireFox no script thing but then I could not reply to this thread. Sigh.
So I disabled the no script tool to reply and then the pop up came back.
I have the fire fox pop up blocker active but it's not stopping the pop up.
I'll turn on the no script tool again and stay silent from now on. GRRRR.
If you have the no script tool, allow renderosity to use scripts but not third parties. That seems to allow posting while doing away with the pestilence.

I did as you suggested. I added renderosity.com to the white list. But it seems to block the ads now.
Thank you Rederosity for the reminder to be more cautious of our security settings.
Quote - Well, I just enabled AdBlock Plus for Firefox on my end for this site and now I don't see any ads...
I was getting the empty grey thing at the bottom, but I restarted my browser and it's gone now, so perhaps the AdBlock filters were updated...

The Wisdom of bagginsbill:
"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."Good afternoon everyone!
I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who took the time to express their concerns regarding today's footer overlay advertising.
There was a small window of time this morning when I was testing a bit of code from a potential advertising client of ours. The reason this footer overlay remained in place longer than initially intended was that it was not appearing on our home page (the page that I kept checking the status of) - but on every other page throughout the site.
This is not the level of 'in-your-face' advertising that you should come to expect from us nor that we would allow.
I apologize for the inconvenience that it may have caused.
All the best,
Tim Haaksma

Um, pardon for being somewhat sarcastic, but...
Don't you have a mirror site on a local server that you can test on rather than on the live site???! Forgive me if I find that odd. For a site this large, you would think you'd not want to risk breaking the site by "testing" ads like that on the live site. But what do I know...
Edit: oh, and I don't know if you've noticed, but this site is loaded with in-your-face advertising (the freebie area comes to mind).

My concern was not with the popup, they are merely annoying and often can be killed with a bit of a setup of popup or script blockers. It was more that several sites were being called and for me scripts from 3rd party sites are always forbidden.
If my virus / spyware /adware goes off on a renderosity page , I will be blaming rendo, not a 3rd party site.
You have the top banner for ads, now you think you need a pop-up too.
By the way, while that was active , my version of Firefox was crashing often. I dont know it was the extra stuff, but it stopped crashing when the ads stopped appearing. It was the usual "Firefox has encountered a problem and needs to terminate" message , so no clue what was bothering it.

Starting today I have noticed a light gray popup bar coming up from the bottom of my screen every time I load a new page on Renderosity. There is NOTHING on it.
Adblock plus says that it is http://www.renderosity.com/photos/File833.png
I don't know what this is supposed to be but it is annoying. If this is supposed to be some new "feature" is there some way to turn it off and make it stop coming up like that?
