Subject: how to install Victoria 4 ++ in Poser 8

frklau ( ) posted Fri, 09 July 2010 at 3:49 AM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 1:54 PM

Hi,

I upgraded to Pose8, but I have problem with Victoria 4++  installation.

I managed to install  Victoria base OK,  even with some customized shading I bought before.

But I tried to install  Victoria 4 ++   packages such as clothes, hair  I went into problem.
No matter which directory I specified for installation,   Poser 8 cannot  recognized the runtime library.   This is very annoying since I plan to buy more Victoria add on's  but I might waste my money if Pose 8 have hard time recognizing the runtime libraries.....

Please help and advise...

Cheers,
Frank

Just to make sure I understand. Do you mean you cant add directory to a library or poser 8 does not load something example V4 morphs ++

You can also reach me on skype.com to talk name ladiesmen22

People dont care what you know, until they know you care

Use Quad core with 8G memory & ATI 5770
Poser Pro 7 & Poser 8 Sr3
Daz 3.2 adv 64 bit

Thanks for the response.

Sorry, I meant I bought Victoria Pro from DAZ.  It works fine with Carrara 8.

But when I tried to installed "dpc_BasicwearforV4A4G4andElite_12.exe" in my Poser 8 environment, Poser 8 just cannot be able be able to recognize the runtime library (or in other word, I cannot see Victoria's clothes).

I tried difference installation directory but could not work.

Any idea?

Thanks

But how are you installing it? Daz' installers normally puts everything in the right spots. I'm not sure what you mean about Poser not being able to recognize the runtime libraries. Did you reload the library? (the little round arrow-thingie at the top right?) Poser 8 requires a refresh before you can see installed content. It's probably your problem :)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

Sounds like the Win 7 UAC split runtime problem.

Sorry, I'm very tired this morning, otherwise I'd explain it all again.

Could somebody else link to the threads, or ask the same questions again, and/or explain once more how to use the P8 library to see where things really are.

In a nutshell:

If you have Vista or Win 7 and UAC enabled, programs are not allowed to poke stuff into anything in Program Files. Your real runtime may not be under the Poser 8 folder, although there is a folder there called Runtime Or it really is there, but is read-only to installers.

To fully diagnose, we need to know what OS, what Poser installation option you selected for where your runtime is, what that location actually is (revealed using the library GUI), and where you think the Daz installer placed the files. Once you know where they should be and where they are, all will be clear.

Thanks but I think Refresh might not be the problem.

DAZ installs the basic wear in (in my case):
C:program filesSmith MicroPoser 8RuntimeLibraryTexturesDAZClothingMilWomV4BasicWear

I stopped and started Poser 8, and searched every where in the right hand column under "Library". Nothing about the basic wear can be found.

Any experience to share? As I just started with Poser 8...  Poser 8 is actually quite interesting to play with.

Thanks alot again,

Online Now!

It comes down to this.  As BB, briefly described, Vista and W7 contain a feature known as UAC, which, in a nutshell, secures your Program files folder from direct access by applications.  Two solutions, either deactivate UAC (not highly recommended) or reinstall P8 into it's own folder on your core HD outside Program files folder.

But you do have stuff in your P8 runtime, and the library will show you where that really is if you hover over one, or if you display the details panel and click on anything that it does see.
I bet that the real location of your content library is in Documents and Settings.

Hi BB,

I don't think the problem is with Win 7 UAC or the directory location I installed the Basic Wear.

I have installed the Basic Wear in  (in my case):

     C:-> Poser8 -> Runtime-> Textures-> DAZ-.> Clothing-> MilWom -> V4-> BasicWear
and  I have also set  Win 7 UAC to none.

I believe the clothing should show up in the "Props" Category of the "Library" column.  But it is not. It is obvious that Poser 8 cannot pick it up....

Quite frustrating as I just pickup Poser 8 and try to play with it..... Perhaps I'll find some cheap V4 clothing and try again....

BTW,  your VSS Home page is very informative, thanks...

You just contradicted what you said earlier.

Eariler you said c:/Program Files/Smith Micro/Poser 8 ...

Now you said c:/Poser 8 ...

And you have not confirmed the location of the content you are able to see. Where is that stuff?

Hover your mouse over one of the library folders. A tool tip will tell you the true path.

Or if you have SR3, you have the new multi-panel library, but you may have to enable the extra panels. It looks like you don't have SR3. You should. The library UI is improved.

My point is you have told me (with two different answers) where you think you put the new files. But you have not yet confirmed that the place where the files are is where they should be.

You have some files that work. Where are they? Where did you really put the new files. Are they in the same place?

You should also be able to confirm the presence of the files and folders by actually using your file explorer, instead of just assuming you know where they are.

I assure you, the library is unable to "not see" some of the files in a particular place. The only possibility is they are not in the same place. The places the library is looking, your REAL runtime, is not where you installed the add-ons.

Note - you must hover over a folder name to get the tool tip.

I had this problem. The solution was to allow it to install into DAZ then manually move the folders from DAZ into poser. It worked fine then
