maybe Naysay guy understands it?

For its nominal purpose (grouping polygons) the grouping tool is garbage compared to practically any other app. If you can export polygon grouping, do your grouping in your modeler, most modelers have infinitely better polygon selection tools (ring select, loop select, fill select etc).
@PJZ: True. But that means you need a modeler in the first place. Some people do not model and have neither time nor desire to learn how to use a modeler. That doesn't mean they can't have a need for the Grouping Tool though ;)
Actually I've often found myself turning to exactly The Grouping tool rather than my modeler or UVMapper for that matter. Poser's Grouping tool is actually great when it comes to selecting single polygons easily.
And I always use it to create material zones in my stuff. I know Hexagon can do it - but I've never been able to figure out just exactly HOW L so I export it from Hex with all the parts as groups, go to Poser, use the Grouping Tool to pick all groups and assign proper material(s) to them.
So yea. I wub the Gwoopin tool, too!

Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
I've always liked to use the grouping tool. I often prefer using it to match body parts when making clothing than to use any kind of cloth-cutting utilities, that I find can make really BAD guesses. I will usually create a group that is every other body part (its faster for me) and then invert and create a second group. Then I better define those in UVMapper Pro.
.
And when you slice up a prop with the wubbly Group Tool, all the materials are still applied.

I understand how to set crease angles in the properties tab. And the default in preferences.
The Poser reference manual makes it sound like :tt1: Tool to assign a Smoothing ID can be used to make second skin pretend clothes look like it's the edge of a sleeve or neckline. But, I don't understand how to make it work. i'm in P7 working on Freak4.
(coffee break? he's prolly chatting up Posette again.)

The grouping tool does a lot more than some want you to believe. For an in house tool it can be the most powerful tool in Poser. Combine that with magnets, materials, the cloth room, the hair room and setup room. It can be used as MistyLaraPrincess has and can be used in complete creations as Geep shows.
It is also the most under appreciated tool in Poser. The last one people seem to learn if ever. That and magnets. LOL.

Most peps don't have modeling programs there champ.
I vote for Geep and NaySay to help us.
Comitted to excellence through art.
There is no reason for anyone not to have a modeling app. There are good free ones.Wings3D, anim8tor, Blender. That's three free ones right there.
The thing is. A modeling app can't help you select those verts for constraining dynamic cloth or dynamic hair placement. The grouping tool does. It is going to take you extra time to export to a modeling app to group some polys for a material change like a second skin but the grouping tool does it right there in less time.
Sometimes I think people forget what they have and can do with it when they spend all thier time trying to use higher end software when they don't need to.
LOL. Coming from someone that uses Modo and Vue8 infinity as much as they can. But uses the grouping tool a lot when using Poser.
Still not seeing what your point is. Your trying to compare modeling software tools to an in-house tool. You still have not explained how that is going to select the verts I want to constrain.
Or how it's going to save time to export the object to your modeling software of choice to select some polys to use a different material setting on those and then import it back to Poser. That seems like a hell of a lot of work to me for a few polys That can be done with less time and work using the grouping tool.
So far all you have done is told me I'm wrong and mention something that most modelers I have seen and used have and has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.
I never saiud it was not easier to model and group that model in your prefered modeling software. I never stated that what so ever that the grouping tool can select all the verts of a mesh as fast or as easy as modeling apps do.
I am saying that there are a lot of things that you can do with the grouping tool that you don't need to go through all the extra steps using other software.
I didn't mean to start a fistfight over this, I really just wish they had added a few more features for y'know, selecting groups of polygons in the last major release. I realize it has features and can do stuff :)
Add me to the "Love this tool group" This vid is some experiments with Draagonstorm's Send In The Clones python script, then about 1minute in a sequence inspired by spawning props when using it
Gee and here I thought the best and most popular grouping tools were facebook and twitter!
Doc, I know you are busy trying to get out of the corner of the room you boxed yourself into. But I could beg gravel and plead for an updated tut for P8.
thanks

Geometry in the way of a camera angle? Select the bothersome polys, invert, create prop. Done!
Door won't open? Select the door polys, create prop. Invert polys, create prop. Parent new door to new prop. Done!
