Subject: Memory usage in Poser

Are there any tutorials, articles, postings, etc that can give me info on Poser's memory usage? - These out-of-memory messages, lockups & freezes are making me nuts! - From other postings, it seems others have similar problems; I'm hoping there may be some known tricks & workarounds to minimize these? (I have Poser 4.0.3.126, 256Megs memory, & 750MHZ Athelon running Win98SE)- If anyone could point me towards help I'd be very grateful! (

the majority of the lockup's fereezes and out of memory errors are a result of either a missing or corrupt obj/rsr file.. as an example... you download a really neat figure... it's based on the eve V3 figure, but you don't have the eve V3 obj.. the figure will start to load then fail with Poser saying it can't find th eobj.. usually a few times.. then from that point onwards you get an out of memory error... think of it as POser's version of the BSOD.. unfortunately about the only way to avoid them is to ensure you have the obj files that you need. usually verified by looking at the cr2 file. I think a search of the archives for the keyword "Memory" would pull up most of the threads relating to this... good luck

The other reason poser freezes are the new hirestextures, specially with the hires bumpmaps.add some hair that needs much memory( daz updo) and some clothes and it will happen. Im on a 1 ghz athlon with 380 mb and the only solution for me , is to modify the cr2 files or the matfiles,so that the bumpmaps for the body are not loaded. If i really need them , i cam load them manually.

Does Curious Labs monitor this stuff? I hope that the next version of POSER addresses some of these issues.

Look at the top of this page. I found a link to send your Poser5 wishlist to Curious Labs - I've sent them 4-5 suggestions already, from assigning aliases to figures to splitting face shape & face expressions onto different control-sets. The main one was a request to incorporate real memory management into poser. Didn't want it to turn into a RANT,so I held it to a few sentences. If enough feedback, I'm hoping they make it a major priority.

I have a similar setup computer wise but am running win2k as the OS. I have heard that Poser has a memory leak or something (not sure what to call it), but I do know that if I am working a large project I had better save often. I currently have one that the pz3 for it is 85 mbs and I can average 4 to 5 renders okay and then I start getting the dreaded low memory or out of memory warnings. This is with a pagefile set to 3072 (in addition to the 256 ram). Rambooster helps some, since it allows me to do a memory dump and free up resources but even with this I have had Poser crash in the middle of rendering. (In all fairness, I do not know if this is a problem with Poser or with something else as I do not work with filesize that large in other aps.) If anyone knows the cause/solution, please don't keep it a secret. :o)
