Subject: 50's Pin Up Style

Lully ( ) posted Sun, 18 July 2010 at 8:23 AM · edited Tue, 21 January 2025 at 8:24 AM

Hi All

I'm trying to create a 50's pin up look that renders in P7, without having to rely on photoshop to tweek the body texture (I'm going to paint other parts in ps eg hair, cloth)

This is what i have done so far http://www.lullys.com/wippreview50s-1.jpg

Im happy with the eye makeup and brows but know the eyeballs and lips need work and i need to do maps for those. I'm happy with the skin tone other than the greyish shadow on the face which i want to get rid,  it's not Ambient occclusion lighting?

Whats peoples views?  Any input would be appreciated.

Lully,
Nice work ...
Suggestions:

Darken nostrils ...
Add very small amount of texture to eye white ...
Small amount of lip gloss perhaps? ... (specular highlight?)

Lookin' good. 👍

I like the look, but you've got the wrong decade.
The hair and makeup are pure 1968, not '50s.

(Well, except for the red lipstick, which is a '50s
color.  The high-church '68 look would have white
or silver lipstick.)

I thought about the nostrils and also the eye whites which are way too white, I used a premade eye texture at first and it looked awful, yes lips need something, i was thinking of trying to paint the lips but not sure, maybe use 50% texture and use red colour with a gloss

Thanks for the suggestions  :)

lol Ockham, have I got things muddled, :)

The hair was just something to hand at the time, I will finish it with a pony tail

maybe the makeup is too strong with the black eyeliner, i'll re-jig that around also for another option

Thanks

The nostrils result is the lack of raytracing in you lights and render settings.  On a technical note, your lighting is way to high.  The skin texture is starting to bloom.  The scene actually needs gamma correction, but, unfortunately, you can only achieve this through Gc nodes in the material room.  However, we are discussing an entirely different approach on material room setup, introduction of better node arrangements, and a re-evaluation of your lighting requirements and setup.  It will minimize post work, if not eliminate it.

Thanks Hborre, I will play around with the lighting also  :)

What ockham said- wrong decade.

Look here for Roz hair- totally 1950's.
If your set on a ponytail- look for Addition hair- I think it's at Daz.

Think Im getting there

pinup%20number%202.jpg
I used IBL lights with a light with a raytrace shadow on it in the end, which eliminated the nostril problem, also redid the skin from a single edge blend to a second edge blend node off of another edge blend nodes.  I used melody hair in the end with a painted tail.

Thanks guys for all your help

The hair bow seems to be sprouting from her ear.  I would post that out, but otherwise, that looks super.

Wasn't Deeta Hair a 50s look? Complete with net veil and everything... or was that early 60s? I remember my mum wore her hair that way - we have B&W picturesin our photo album of her and us as babies (sheesh, giving my age away here, aren't I?) ... she has natural curls.

my mum used to pin curl her hair in the 50's but had it loose and not up. In the early 60's she also had a long ponytail or wore it in a french pleat. When I was a kid my mum used to have the bubble cut and rollered it up to style it, which used to make us all giggle  :D
