I decided to buy a character for my main nemesis for protagonist in my comic, and I really liked a M3 character because he looks nice but mean and has some scars including a facial scar.  Then It thought, well if I buy it I can make my m3 invisible except for his head.  take my m3/M4 remap and put the same texture on him and make his head invisible and parent the M3 head to the m4 head, and thus I can utilize all my m3 and m4 clothes and poses for this character. I toon (not done yet in this illustration) using various options such as olivier's tooning with semidieu shaderworks or use photoshop filters or both, so any neck problems will virtually disappear, but anyway,  here's the unadulterated version of a M3 head on M4 with no tooning so youc an see how it looks. so david Hoadley, thankyou for these remaps!!!  worth every sent.  BTW the character is raven from daz

the reason I chose this texture/character set is it has two versions that are smooth or unshaven, as there is one scene where the badguy has to smarten up his act.  and also there are some great facial poses for expressions eg angry.

but the expressions are a bit overdone, so what I do is apply the expression at frame 30, then wind it back until I get to a frame I like as in the above example.

hehe.  and I am tired of the daz desert soldier outfit (maybe the only good M3 BDU out there) so here is my m3 (with M4 body) in the M4 elite soldier outfit.

 Looks great Esther!

After reading the excerpts I have to say that I HATE this guy! I hope the protagonist gets to kick his ***  !

estherau ( ) posted Sat, 17 July 2010 at 6:49 PM

thanks.
Yes, he's truly an evil villain.
well now, I don't want to give anything away.

anyway he can now wear M3 or M4 clothes, but by the time I really need him the most I suppose M5 will be out and I'll be transplanting heads and begging DPH for another remap.

Esther, I got the Raven part of that... but all else was a jumble between my eyes and my brain.  You put Raven on M3's head, then..............ummm..............???  If there is a remap for M4 that will take M3 maps, why invis M4's head and stick M3's on?

estherau ( ) posted Sun, 18 July 2010 at 1:42 AM

aha - that's the beauty of this.  when you do a head transplant you want the head and body textures to match up.  I liked the M3 character, and I have lots of M3 clothes and poses, but I also have lots of clothes for M4 and lots of M4 poses.
so I make 2 identical looking characters which have different bodies but the same texture and head but one has a M4 body and one has a M3 body.
One character is a total M3 (the raven character applied)
the other is the remap of M4 covered in the raven M3 texture, but now I don't want that M4 head because the facial features can't look quite the same, so I make that M4 head invisible.

Am I making sense yet?

Nice! But did you have any trouble with the eyelashes in the M3-M4 remap? Drives me crazy trying to fix them, so far I haven't been able to. For instance, Adrian looks like he's wearing way too much mascara. Same with every other M3 texture, when I checked in the P7 Material room, there seems to be two zones for the eyelashes, with slightly different names. Unplugging one map gives slightly better lashes but there are still smudgy bits that don't look right. And plugging the Adrian transmap into the other zone while turning the first one off leaves him with no eyelashes at all. Now if I could only put M3's head on that remapped body .... but alas, my efforts to date have been in vain. :-(

I love that character!  I bought him when he first came out at Poser Pros.

**Byrdie  - no I had no eyelash trouble at all.
How long ago did you get the M3M4 remap from DPH.  He did give me an updated one.

I think the eyelashes are still M4 eyelashes so go to material room and click on the michael, select the eyelash group that has a number next to it and apply an M4 eyelash from a previously saved material file of an eyelash.
Your other eyelash group shouldn't really be there at all (just looks like it is there on the list I think) but just in case, set it's transparency to 1 and have no map attached and that should make it disappear.

putting the head on is easy, make M4 head invisible including all his tongue parts and eyes, then make M3 invisible except for his head.  go to the body section of M3 and position him so his head is in the right spot and change the scale as needed.  then go up to the top menu, I think it might be figures and choose set figure parent and then choose the M4 head to parent the body of M3 to.

I bought the remapped Mike only two weeks ago, was it updated since? Anyway, I'll try using an M4 eyelash map on him. I also noticed he has the eyebrow part, does that still take M4 maps? One of my favorite M3 characters uses transmapped eyebrows and of course they don't show up on this M3-M4 dude but if I can use the eyebrows from another M4 set it'll be perfect.

Use the old "invisible body, visible head" trick for the rest, eh? Yeah, I kinda figured that'd be the best route to take when I wanna use my old M3 faces. Somebody a long time ago posted about "Frankensteining" characters -- the example used was a James head on an M3 body -- however the instructions just don't work. I think they left out a couple of steps 'cuz the exported head .obj does not come in the way they described when it's imported, it's in the wrong place and waaaay too big. But they say nothing about how to fix that and when I tried scaling it down it still had problems. So for now I'll take the less complicated way out.

estherau ( ) posted Sun, 18 July 2010 at 9:38 PM

no - you have the latest.

I don't do any exporting and import9ing for my frankensteining.  it's too difficult for me. My way works very adequately especially when I toon my characters.

Where can these remaps be found? Have a large closet full of V3 and M3 stuff that would be great to use again. :)

Byrdie ( ) posted Sat, 31 July 2010 at 2:04 PM

You can buy them at Content Paradise. A bit pricey but worth it. I think he also has a couple of free P4/Gen3 freebies around here somewhere.

As well as you can know anyone on the internet that you've never met face to face. I know he's a creative, passionate, generous and compassionate individual from his online actions and contributions. I also know he lives in a war zone at times and the stress of that can explain a lot of his more passionate responses to certain apparent injustices. I like him.

estherau ( ) posted Sun, 01 August 2010 at 5:26 AM

well I've spoken to him on the phone in person from Israel to me in australia and he was very nice but also a bit cantankerous because he was paying for the call and I didn't have everything ready when he rang. I was in the middle of giving my kids lunch or something.

you know I was just thinking, even when you  know someone face to face you often don't really know them.
A friend of mine's husband for example, suddenly upped and left her, and he always said he was a family man etc.  She never saw it coming.
