Did anyone notice that somehow BP had something to do with the release of the Lockerbie bomber?
Oil gushers would obviously be low on the list if you're backing Libyan terrorists...
"However he is expected to order the release of Government documents disclosing how BP pushed Labour ministers to agree to a controversial deal which led to the release of the Lockerbie bomber..."*

Now they're accused of buying out coastal scientists and holding them to contract not to speak about the spill for 3 years. When the monetary system as we know it today ends...... All problems of dis-honesty , integrity, greed, and injustice will end as well... Capitalism, as we know it today, has really nothing to do with Democracy... Abundance is an enemy of Capitalism... You can not make money on what there is plenty of...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i think greed and things like that are embedded in human culture... monetary system or not. if everything came free, people would still fight to take stuff off of each others hands, or live in the best locations etc.

Thank you Rayraz, I fully agree with you. It’s the animal condition for even as man evolved into clans and tribes they became over protective and territorial of productive lands and waters to the point of warring against other invading clans wanting access to those same lands and waters. Perhaps greed does serve a purpose in the animal world...survival? Ever tried taken a bone away from a hungry dog?
FYI, the Lockerbie release was down to the Scottish Government, not the UK's
hence why the Scots are p****ed off about this, as the BP issue was with the UK government, not ours.
our law, our system. Folks don't like it, tough.
Any prisoner with temrinal illness not expected to re-offend is eligible for release.
Megrahi is almost certinaly innocent, so last damn thing our government wanted was for him to die in our jails because the FBI/CIA fabricated the evidence.
Go look it up. The senior judge who sentenced him believes he was innocent, so does the official UN observer, so do most of the UK victim's relatives.
He should have had a full Appeal hearing, which would have brought all this up...but instead he was released.
he was a scapegoat.
For example, the bomb component, by independant testing, had only a 1 in 10 chance of surviving the explosion, at best, yet it survived almost intact, AND survived the fall from 5 miles up, AND was found in huge empty area of Scotland...ie, snowball's chance in hell that was a legitimate item.
then you had the fact the FBI showed Meghrahi's picture to the maltan shopkeeper BEFORE they asked him to identify the purchaser of the items...which is blatant witness tampering.
And before anyone starts...I used to live nearby Lockerbie, in fact we almost moved there before the bombing.
I want the actual killers caught, not some damn scapegoat or political scumbag's crap.
Sigh :/

I have to politely disagree with Rayraz... I do have a little more faith in people.. In a world of scarcity like "mad max's world" people ran around like mad dogs and murderous warriors. In the movies...
I neither said that everything should be free... *necessarily.. * but a lot of natural resources could be provided for free.. or nearly free... water, foods, electricity, clean air, clean oceans, healthcare, education and science based technologies..
I believe people will settled down and eventually begin to star thinking outside the need to horde because of scarcity... Once they understand that there is plenty of life sustaining resources to go around, the panic subsides.. More is not better.. People will eventually take what they need only and science based technology will provide..
Las Vegas was a desert.. look what technology did for the landscape... No need to take other people's land.. Technology can provide and maintain all our needs...
I do not know what to replace this horrible and failing system with... but we need to start looking.. It is the Power hungry and greedy 2% people on top of this capitalist economic corporate machinery that implanted the Idea of scarcity in our heads.. BP is an effect of all this..
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tom
problem is, things are scarce, largely because we waste/mis use but also because of exponential increase in our economies, posted the video on that before but basically Capitalism, as we have it, is inevitably a death trip, because you can't keep having infinite growth based on resources, based on a finite world...it's IMPOSSIBLE to sustain. we'r eusing up 3 planet's worth of sustianable resources at present.
we're running out of helium, why waste it on freakin BALLONS when it's needed for MI scanners, blimps
Why waste petrol burning it (what a waste) when ti should be kept for plastics
etc etc
Health, educaiton, information (web), security and justice are not commodities, they are essential needs for modern citizens. this isn't the 1st century, it's the 21st, unless we get our heads out of our posteriors, we're in deep poop, sigh :(
Ok, Bryster doens't believe in Man-made Cllimate change, fair enough
but if he's wrong...what people simply do not get is that it's not the climate change that will do the worst harm (least, not for a long while)...it's the Nuclear Biological and Chemical wars of genocide it would trigger.
You note Las vegas, las vegas has wasted VAST amounts of water, grossly STUPIDLY. No water, no life. So imagine the water dries up...people will slaughter each other over that kind of thing. Wars over basic, not luxury resources: food water, power. he who doesn' t have them, dies, so wars nto of conquest, but of genocide.
yes I believe most folk are intrinsically decent. Plenty of evidence of that despite all the ugly stuff
but if it comes to YOUR kids, or osmeone else's dying of thirst***...and our ratbag idiot politicians in charge...***
see what I mean?
Very very bad mojo
go read up on the US bioweapons programs, especially anthrax, scary stuff.

@Silverblade
I understand what is being said.... more was added to my original statement than it was really needed to appreciate... I'll say it a little different.. As an observation,, if I may...
That as long as the monetary system as it is today continues to exist nothing will change..
example..... Greed, dishonesty, competitiveness, cheating, wars, hoarding of goods and power struggles. just to mention a few... All come from this economic monetary system... and the monetary system brings about the desire for power..
Almost every mishap that you can think of where humans are involved can be traced in someway or another to making money, gaining power or due to lack of having money or power..
Power corrupts...
At the end you are speaking about idiot politicians.... what do you think is behind the reason we get these politicians in the first place...? money!! and power!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
well, it's our fault, lol. all of us
We need to just tell the ratbags to get lost and stop listening to them, that's all it would take.
we don't need/want more violent dumb revolutions, we just need ot grow up as an entire species
"Adolph Hitler..Stalin..Osama? Oh get stuffed you howling evil loonies! And there's hundreds of us to ONE of you, quit it or we'll kick your ass"
that would have been the sensible thing to do in the face of those kooks. they were just men, men who could have been beaten, thrown in insane asylums and left rest of us to do more useful things.
But..no, folk wanted power, hate, revenge, whatever. STUPID!
alas, I fear, that takes hard, hard knocks to get this into enough folk, for us all to advance.
yes, money is just meant ot be a tool of exchange
alas, folk who get great wealth power, any race creed or colour, usually gets corrupted...power..corruption...old truism as you note.
gotta stop messing with folk (as nations), only ends up causing you grief in the end.
folk with power start feeling they are "above the normal man"...
we all die without food, we all have an excretory orifice...sorry to be blunt but it's simple basic fact. Nobody is some "uber god" like they obviously think they are, sigh
we are all in the same boat. Just cause someone owns a ferrari or runs a country doens't mean jack squat. Circumstance, drive or luancy can get you those.
"What does it profit a man to gain the world, and lose his soul?"
"What you do unto the least, you do also unto me"
we all live in one boat, the planet Earth, just like a normal ship, if you damage it badly enough, EVERYONE drowns. It's in our own interest to keep it working for a long long time.
crazy to have folk wanting MORE mansions to live in...lol, like um, how nuts is that? :p
etc etc
this kind of stuff, as I oft say, is best discssed over a beer, and/or at a river with no one caring if they actually catch a fish or not and just enjoying yakking ;)
