Hi Guys

My poser 8 crashes on rendering or as the problem report politely said

Poser 8 quit unexpectedly.

I asked James G2 to talk with a sound file of approximately 240 frames.

Any ideas?

James was the only caricature and there was a background file of 240K

Fire fly was the renderer.

4 threads

Mac Book Pro

2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory 4.GB

Mac OSx 10.6.4

I have included a section of the crash report.

Hi Saibabemeuk :) Crashes with Poser are common. Every single time I morph it crashes at some point. Reopen it do a bit more morphing and down it goes again. Too many figures and props and it crashes. I gave up bothering about the crashes, I just learned to save the scene evey couple of minutes.
Best of luck in solving your problem

Your a star thank you I thought it was little old me being clumsy again , yes save save and save again. However you  have got the Art of Poser . Thank you.

Did you manage to get James to talk ?

saibabameuk ( ) posted Fri, 23 July 2010 at 6:22 AM

 Ah
James is talking.
I closed down poser rebooted my computer. Opened a from factory setting poser8.
Then a fresh figure from the library and loaded a .wav file .
I know have another 247 frame animation to load into my Final Cut express movie folder .
The animation will join the other 9 minutes worth of animation and hopefully by November the animation will be complete to go to the museum in India.
However the first few minute look so clunk now I may have to re work them!
Every time I open poser I learn so much, and by joining the forum its made life a lot easier.
Got to go Albert has just rendered !!!!!
Thanks for asking about young Jim.

Crashes are not Normal. If you are having a Program, including Poser Crashing, something is corrupted or not configured correctly. I encourage everyone that has issues such as this to Contact Support. You can put Attention John in the Subject and I will try to respond to your issue.

Here are some general tips..

Corrupted Preferences. Removing these often resolve weird issues with Random Crashes.

Drivers... If you get a crash when a new window opens or when the screen refreshes, check your Driver. These are often Video Display issues and can be corrected with the latest Driver, or switching to SreeD.

Updates... make sure your Operating System and Software is up to date. Always reboot after installing Updates to confirm there are no new ones based on the Updates just installed.

Settings... some settings need to be changed in Preferences is you use DAZ3D Figures, such as turning off Use External Binary Morphs.

Other Settings... If you get a crash during Render or at the end of Render, try changing your Render Tab Settings in Preferences by checking Separate Process and changing the Threads to the number of Cores you have to no more than twice the number of Cores.

Window Users can use MSCONFIG to look for possible Conflicts with third party Applications, Mac Users can use Safe Boot. Often this will help you identify a conflict and allow you to adjust the settings for the Third Party Application to allow Poser to run correctly.

 Ratscloset
Thank you for getting back on this issue.
Preferences?
Is that the HD on the Computer?
I can find no reference to corrupted preferences in the Poser Reference Manual.

Depends on version of Poser... ..

Go to Smith Micro's Support and search Preferences... you will see it at the top of the results.

Here is the link,

http://support.smithmicro.com/cs/smkb.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2076

If you still have issues, click on the Start New Incident Tab and send a request for Support.

No tried it crashing all  the way both on poser pro 2010 & poser8 !
I have removed pref's on both .
I will get onto poser support.
When I am feeling patient!.
I must say crashing has been a ongoing problem with fire fly.

  Well here we go.
Next time you get a problem from a new Mac Book Pro
get the client to reboot with the original disk .
In my case Snow Leopard also it is important to load the updates.
I have completed 200 frames Quick Time .mov at high res on Fire fly.
So Thank you
Why the crashes should happen I have no idea, how the corrupt file's happen no idea.
Oh by the way if I get back to you with crashing you have the answer.!!
Now to get on with the work.
Animation has to be finished (on show) in the Indian Museum by October.
If your interested you can see the Museum on http://www.saibaba.me.uk
One day we are hoping to have a animation team. Until then I have been given the job.
Thanks again John Casky
