Subject: Vue8 crashing at startup

 Hi,

for a couple months now I've been unable to use Vue8. I've tried everything in the book and unfortunately Eon support keeps asknig me to open a new ticket so the ycan solve my problem which leads to opening a new ticket ( funny thing is the very same person is trying to solve my problem so what is the point of opening a new ticket? :)

As soon as I start Vue8, it is loading and I even have the loading screen ( the one with the available modules ) but it keeps crashing after that. Did anyone have the same problem? I've read that some other people had this crashing problem but no solution was working for me.

If you have any idea, feel free to shoot :)

First off some more info would be helpful..
What OS, how much RAM, what graphics card will do to start...

Intel i930
12GB DDR3
GTX 470

Tried vanilla Vue, official updates and beta updates. Uninstalled and re-installed after cleaning the registry from Eon entries.

Ok well it's a rig that should run it without problems.
First thing is are you running in admin mode in W7? and is your UAC on or off??
Also which version of Vue 8 are you using?

 Running as admin, UAC off and I'm using Vue 8 Esprit - 64bit ( with Ecosystem, Ecopainter and Botanica modules ). Thing is I was able to use Vue ( I'm a user since Vue 4 ) before without any specific problem ( except for the bugs Vue had ) but at one point Vue just didn't start anymore.

hm could be something in the Vue ini files or such?
when you uninstall Vue, even if you clean the registry, it may leave folders hidden inside your USER folder
one of these ifle smaybe screwed up, not getting taken out on uninstall, so sticking there and scrwing up fresh installs and causing this issue??

alternately, did you install anything specific BEFORE this started t o occur, liek an antivirus, Nvidia driver update etc?

 I also deleted files from the users folder when I uninstalled Vue :(

I think Vue started to stop working around the time I updated to a GTX 470. I also had installed the beta drivers from Nvidia at the time. Since then I cleaned my drivers and installed the latest offcial ones. I just hope someone had the same unpleasant experience and will be able to help me :)

Could you post a screengrab or write down what the config.xml file is saying? It is located in Users/ Your name/ AppData/ Roaming/ e-on software/ Vue 8

All this means that Vue crashed in all possible openGL modes, are you sure your graphic card is up to date? Or maybe you need to redownload the drivers and reinstall them. It's definitely connected to your graphic card.
You could try editing the xml file, but I suspect it would not work anyway. Change the values as indicated in bold italic (but don't use bold italic, it's just to show you what has to be changed)

 I have to say Eon support made me edit this file soem time ago ( thoguh I've tried to start Vue numerous time since  ).

I tried to edit the file with your values but it still is crashing.

Drivers are up to date with the latest WHQL Nvidia version. Issues were the same with beta and final drivers though.

Graphic card? That what I was suspecting, but I assume other people are using GTX 470's with Vue so why can't vue reset itself or run in software mode so I can just start it ?

Sorry I can't help more. But the fact that it was working before updating your drivers makes me think of a bad drivers installation...

and cleaning out drivers isn't that easy at times

 Thing is every single other piece of software that I have ( and I have other 3D software ) is working flawlessly except for Vue. Drivers have been cleaned and re-installed since. It certainly is related to the card/drivers and it certainly is Vue not resetting or God knows why...

Well, I have problems with Poser since I installed latetst drivers for my card. Poser freezes as soon as I try to load a figure. Vue works well.

well, there is an odd thing, I don't know if applicable to your card that screwed up Poser for a while on mine

this is on WIndows 7
got to:

  1. Start up
  2. ccontrol panel
  3. devices/sound
  4. Nvidia control panel
  5. turn on ADVANCED SETTINGS
  6. MANAGE 3D SETTINGS
  7. THREADED OPTIMIZATION turn this ot OFF
  8. reset PC
  9. and try Vue or Poser (which ever is screwing up)

Has your Vue ever worked on this configuration?

I have a similar issue on an old Mac mini which is 32bit only while I try to start the 64bit only version there. I know, this is not your problem, but minimum a similar behavior.

If your Vue has started once and not now anymore you maybe try to remove all files in the related Vue folder under:

Program FilesEon-SoftwareUsersuserAppDataRoamingEon-Software

Where your config.xml (you edited) is. This will bring your Vue back to the default status as it was when you first installed it but that is not a major problem I guess. Sometimes files there get corrupted and then Vue is not starting anymore. So it is worth a try.

Personal remark - now that the alien issue is solved to my satisfaction - I am willing to post here at Renderosity again every now and then.
