Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 24 1:33 pm)
Quote - OK , I hope to build a new animation set up based on Poser , what Mac computer would I purchase to run fast and smooth rendering.
Look at the just-announced 8-core Macs. Buy one if you're very well off. Or you could get a similarly specced PC for considerably less, and if you opt to build your own PC, well, you could have a pair for the price of the Mac. One could be used for network rendering.

PoserPro 11 - Units: Metres
Adobe CC 2017
PP2010 32bit is slightly slower then P8, PP2010 64bit is slightly faster. There have been a few people that truly timed it and it was about 10% faster. It's very unlikely that you will gain over 25%.
We've had discussions about this before and when people guess the improvement (what most actually do) and after that truly time it with a stopwatch, the render speed is a lot less then what they've guessed.
If you buy PP2010 for faster rendering compared to P8, you will be disappointed. Smith Micro did an outstanding job on P8 and PP2010 is basically the same except for 64 bit, allowing you to use more RAM.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(
Food for thought.....

How many bit / memory / any ideas.
I am using Poser 8 Poser2010.
Thanks Guys
A couple of things to rember. On the mac side of the house, only the renderer is 64-bit. This means that while building a scene, you will be limited to 2GB per process. Hopefully, the developers will get the code base moved to the 64-bit Cocoa libraries by the next iteration.
The renderer (FFRender) on the other hand seems to use as many cores and as much ram as you can throw at it.
The key is (as with all modern computing) Cores & Ram, Ram, and oh by the way, more Ram.
I will be replacing my 1st Gen Mac Pro with one of the new Mac Pros (12 core) for my birthday in Feb. That is out of most peoples price range however ($5K or there abouts) But 12 Cores (24 w/Hyperthreading), and up to 64GB of ram will future proof me. (I work off a 5 year cycle)
If you can't afford a Mac Pro, I'd recommend the large iMac. Just make sure you stuff as much ram in it as it will take. 1 caveat. Don't buy ram from Apple. Get a reputable dealier on line and pay half of what apple charges.

Poser 7 runs quite quickly on my Macbook Pro or 24" iMac. Both of them are last year's model, both of them only have two cores and the Macbook Pro only has 2GB RAM. Just stay away from the white polycarbonate Macbook.
Has anyone done this recently?
Sounds like it might be fun if one of you,- with the current toys, - once again organized a Poser “Speed Test” similar to the one done by Jim Burton in here years ago.
He built a .PZ3 scene from Poser base figures & props, and posted it in FreeStuff so everyone could use the same scene as a standard for comparing their own render speeds.
To see how it worked last time, the thread with his original test was here:

…and his test scene was reposted in FreeStuff, along with a compilation of results, here:

How much faster does poser pro 2010 render over poser 8?
