THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: poor ignorant me needs help...anything..

erosiaart ( ) posted Sun, 01 August 2010 at 12:21 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 8:39 AM

Not joking..
I know I'm way behind..since I've been dragging my feet to get back into bryce after Dad's passing on.
Worked a bit on bryce 6..but didn't get too involved in it since trying to emotionally land on my feet and figure out life was/is my/now 'a' priority.
Kept fiddling with 5.5
Didn't work on the beta of bryce 7.
Stayed away from bryce 6 and 7 posts coz it didn't make sense to me..and if i did read..it treated me like golf does.. my hands and legs gets really itchy to get back to it....but my brains wouldn't function.

Now i have bryce 7 pro..and it's like walking thru a maze of ..oooh help!
instancing??
then those lights.. the new ones
the hdri's are ok..that's not a probs..

I'll go thru past posts..but will anyone lead me to simple tuts or something??

And now the bryce bible seems to be like the Old Testament..
Is a New Bryce Testament (bible) ever gonna turn up?

Sigh..i feel so ignorant and way back..like you guys have gone up to grade 7, and I'm  left in grade 3!!

Attached Link: Tutorial videos for Bryce 7

Rosie: check out the videos that David Brinnen and Horo and other have made here: http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=144018

They are some of the clearest and to-the-point tutes I've ever seen, and they cover many of the new features, and how they relate to the older features you may be more comfortable with.  Highly recommended!

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

Poor ignorant me (that would be me, not Rosie!) has a question.  The answer may be buried somewhere in the excellent DAZ link provided by Rosemaryr, but because the thread is 14 pages long, I thought I'd ask here... :)

In the video tut entitled "Modify Volumetric Clouds", David Brinnen talks about using an infinite slab.  I have looked high and low in both B6 adn B7Pro, and can't find such a thing, although there is an icon for selecting it in your image at the bottom of the screen.  Where is this infinite slab?

Also, David B talks about sample scenes to be shipped with Bryce7Pro with sample(s) of these volumetric clouds.  Did DAZ supply those?  I can't find those sample scenes either!

Thanks in advance

Bec

I found the volumetric slab!  It's kind of hidden.  Hold down the alt key before you click on the cloud plane.  (hurries off to watch the rest of the video...)

And the supplied free scenes are in a weird spot:

Look in the Presets folder , so where-ever you have installed B7 look for ..PresetsScene files *.br7
and these are the names of the files:

Free content cloud over big sur 1.br7
Free content Lincolnshire wind turbines 1.br7
Free content millstone simplified 1.br7
Free content R4 1.br7
Free content scene to go with video tutorial modifying volumetric cloud materials 1.br7

I shifted mine over to the more logical Content folder with other scene files...

Thanks RosemaryR

I just looked.  I don't seem to have those scene files.  sigh...

BecSchm ( ) posted Sun, 01 August 2010 at 11:26 PM

OK, I found the sample files.  They're under Documents and Settings/All users.  Apparently in response to a setup question, I OK'ed the files for all users, and that's how they ended up there.

Heh.  Well, for some reason this was confusing to a lot of people, so I did a copy/paste of the answer David Brinnen gave, over at DAZ.  Even he didn't know why they ended up where they did!

Glad to be of service, all!
