Subject: (OT) I can't keep it hidden any longer!!!
Oooh this is awesome! Owls means something very special to me. And this one.. is so CUTE! And the ..er chicks? (are owl babies called chicks o what?) are divine. I saw at least one and possibly two when she stood up to groom herself! <3

Baby owls are called "Owlets"
Her first clutch consisted of Max, Pattison, Austin and Wesley. Max and Wesley turned out to be females. Austin a male. Pattison was 2 tone and gender was never officially determined.
The 2 owlets in this clutch are named: Ashley (hatched August 6, 2010 at 3:20 am) and Carrie (hatched August 7, 2010 at 8:50 am)
I've been watching this owl family since February.

Molly fans have been asking for all kinds of memorabilia and Carlos Royal (the land owner that has the owl box) started offering a coffee mug and it expanded into calendars and t-shirts and mouse pads because people were asking for them.
I've ordered a hard cover book of "Molly the Barn Owl" which is based on the first clutch. A hard cover coffee table book of Carlos Royal's gorgeous photographs of the first clutch. And Carlos Royal's grandson Austin's "Molly Story DVD" which he did for a school project in order to raise money to go to college. Smart and enterprising young man!!!
I'm a complete addict! LOL
Night vision should be kicking in in about 1 hour. The male, McGee was coming around at approximately 8:30 pm PDT or so, but he's been coming later and later these days. It's speculated that he's still helping and teaching the first clutch of 4 owlets (now owls) to hunt for themselves.

Cool, Acadia. I read some of the info from following posts and links at the chatbox :) Wasnt sure if there is one or two owlets at the moemnt though, I did catch Molly standing up but .. wasn't sure what I saw :) Good to know there are two hatchlings then :) They're so awesome!
I'll check in again later. Right now it's 4 am ere and I really should be sleeping instead of looking at an owl LOL!

This is so cool :) I LOVE owls :) My 10-year-old has been learning all about them for a couple years.
I'll have to catch him with his owl hat I made him, lol. It's so cute!

OMG!!!! Owlet #3 has arrived!! Her name is Kelly! She hatched at 20:44 hours PDT.
Egg #4 may hatch on Saturday if the trend of 31 days continues.

I was lucky enough to see McGee's morning delivery for the first time ^_^ I missed the hatching of Kelley though, but perhaps # 4 will be kind enough to pop out while I'm there. I certainly wast..er spend far too much time already watching that owl L

The last egg hasn't hatched to my knowledge. It should hatch on Saturday!
If you have your sound up though, you should start to hear soft muffled peeping sounds as early as today.
For each of the other eggs, I hear the peeping sounds a good 36 hours or more before the egg hatched.

Thanks! I couldn't tell....every time I look at the cam, she's either roosting or standing with her tailfeathers in the way, lol.
Oh, and I had the live stream on for a few hours today...and heard the cooing every once in a while. It was just barely loud enough to hear at a normal volume, but it was pretty soothing :) Galen is far from interested, but I got the neighborhood kids all giddy over the baby owls when they came over today, lol.

I have Molly in a tab in my browser pretty much all the time now. And the sound cranked up JUST enough to hear, so I can switch tab when she starts squawking (which made me see McGee for the first time, yesterday) OR to hear whenever Carlos comes on and starts telling us about them.
This is more addictive than even Facebook. I wonder if it can be legal? ;)

The 3rd owlet, Kelly died last night around 2:09am PDT.How sad 
I don't even pretend to understand nature. This was either by design or a tragic accident during food delivery. Either one doesn't make this news any easier to bare. RIP sweet little Kelly! The short time that you were with us, you were loved the world around. RIP sweet owlet Kelly! Fly happy and free over the Rainbow Bridge!
It looks like Kelly was accidentally stepped on during a food delivery. Molly seemed to know soon after that something was wrong. She picked up the owlet and shook it a few times, then carried it off camera near the door. Carlos used the other cameras to check the box near the door and Kelly's body is not there. So he figures that Molly ate the dead owlet; such is nature.:(
