Subject: apply mat turns figure white before showing texture

Vex ( ) posted Tue, 10 August 2010 at 11:58 AM · edited Thu, 08 August 2024 at 12:47 PM

So I know it doesn't REALLY matter but it bugs me.. any way to stop this? sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't, can't figure out the trigger.

Using PP2010 and its happened since at least P7 that I can remember.

Happens to me all the time, Typically the more populated a scene.

My guess is the preview, is trying to make room in memory for the updated texture then showing it in preview when it is complete.

Maybe, Maybe not????

Never causes any issues in rendering so i just pass it off as a "Poser Thingy"

its a naked V4 and i've got 5 gb ram free. can't imagine its a memory issue.

but no idea.

it just irks! lol

This happens to me whenever I apply a gamma correction shader or anything that uses alt diffuse instead of the main diffuse.

WARK!

Thus Spoketh Winterclaw: a blog about a Winterclaw who speaks from time to time.

(using Poser Pro 2014 SR3, on 64 bit Win 7, poser units are inches.)

The alt_dif, now that makes a lot of sense! I use Aery Soul  Products 99% of the time, and their shaders are typically run through the alt_dif.

Like I said, I just chalk it up as a Poser Thingy :)

nothing plugged into alt_diffuse here. just alt_specular. I wonder if that's the cause?

Preview memory is graphics card memory, not your main memory. If you're using OpenGL preview, the textures have to fit in the graphics card and may not.

I'm just guessing.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

some pz2s cause the 'white out' and some don't.

the new pz2s i made for my new girl do, but i went over to FRAD's G4 molly and threw on mu 08, no 'white out'.

my tex are 3000x3000 and those are 4000x4000.

being in SreeD didn't cause a whiteout so its openGL for sure..

but what makes it white out on some mats and not others?
