Subject: OT: Football is coming back

Winterclaw ( ) posted Thu, 12 August 2010 at 6:40 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 8:57 AM

The football season is going to be back in 5 short weeks and I'm getting hyped.  Any thoughts over the offseason or the upcoming season?

Henne is a little young, but I like what the Phins are doing.  I don't think they'll make a SB run with that schedule, but I wouldn't be that surprised if they make it to the playoffs.  I don't see the saints repeating and the vikings aren't going to the SB without farve (or with him), so I'm thinking maybe cowboys or giants.  In the AFC, maybe the colts or jets, both look good right now.

Of course my husband roots for white-headed birds of prey ;o).

But don't tell him football season is starting. I'll never forgive you.

If it's any consolation, next season there could be a lock out because the collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the Union might be allowed to expire.

Of course, I'm talking about proper football, where you have to use your feet and not your hands.
It's in the name :-)

Don't know how many games Big Ben's gonna have to sit out for his stupid extracurricular hijinks. The Steelers usually start slow anyway so we'll see. If the Cowgirls start looking too good, maybe Jessica can be persuaded to get back with Tony. That should guarantee a crash and burn by mid season.

My kid has a Vuvuzela. Most awesomest noisemakler ever invented. Although it scares the bejeebus out of me when she blows it.. I still like it :)

Then again.. I'm weird, I know!

I hope they'll take on for future soccer matches! I think they're fun. PLUS they actually requires at least some degree of skill to blow. much like a trumpet. And much unlike the cpompressed-air-horns that seems to be the "accepted" noise at any soccer match here.

Then again.. i generally don't give a hoot about any kind of -ball really L

I do like to watch curling though...

Teams up here (the Great White North) are already playing. No one watches. We're waiting for HOCKEY!!! As for football (read soccer) in the rest of the world; well we have a team in this town and truth be known; I've never been to a game and I don't know of any; except one Brazillian girl, who have ever seen a match at the purpose built stadium my tax loonies have paid for.

Not a football fan, but I do know our field is bigger with one less down; and a hell of a lot of American players come here to hone their skill before they go to the NFL. Not trying to start a war. Just making a comment as regards to "wimpy". As I said before. Bring on HOCKEY

Darboshanski ( ) posted Fri, 13 August 2010 at 9:03 PM

Rugby now there's a game no pads, no helmets, no protection but a mouth guard if that.

Wimpy soccer? I've played both American rules football and soccer and had gotten more injuries in soccer than I ever did playing football and a lot more tired. Soccer it's go, go,go where as football here you run a play then stand around, run another play, stand around, TV time out stand around, red flag challenge stand around waiting on some zebra to get his crap together lol.

But I have to say pop warner football is fun to watch I used to say the same about college ball but they have become just as bad as the pros with all the delays in the game for something.

Womens ("real") football actually isn't limited to the lingerie thing. They've had a league for some time. Montreal just won the North American championship and Boston copped the world title.

There's international than women's competition as well:

July 3, 2010 "The United States won the first IFAF Women's World Championship gold medal with a 66-0 victory over Canada at the Zinkensdamms IP Stadium in Stockholm, Sweden, today.
Earlier in the day, Finland won the Bronze medal with a 26-18 win over Germany, while on a good day for Scandinavia, host Sweden took fifth place overall by beating Austria 20-18."*

Lingerie football never really interested me because they aren't in real lingerie and they have to wear all that padding.

Yeah, soccer does have a bit of injuries, but a lot of those would go away if they wore proper equipment or weren't faking to run out the clock while they had a lead.

And in other news, the giants beat the jets.  As a dolphins fan, seeing the jets beat makes me happy.

There have been a lot of  pro footballers ( soccer players) who's careers were ended by injury.  You wear a lot of gear play American football thigh pads, knee pads, pads to protect the tail bone, shoulder pads, rib pads (for QB's), elbow pads and neck protectors a lot of LB's wear them and the helmet many with eye shields and a mouth piece so your teeth don't get bashed out. My front teeth got chipped to pieces because I forgot my mouth piece. I've had my wrist sprained as well as my ankle and right knee.

In soccer I had always had bruised shins and knee caps, bent back fingers, a dislocated nose, black eyes, sore ribs twisted ankles and knees and other crap. It was worse when I played rugby lol!

We have two NFL teams here and both had horrible seasons last year the Chiefs and Rams. I got spoiled when I lived in New England with the Pats. However before there was a team in the tamp Bay area as a kid I was a Dolphins fan those where the golden years of Dolphin history. Then when the Bucs came along I was a die hard fan what sucked was when I moved from the Tampa Bay area and after years of grief the suckers go to their first Super Bowl. But I give the credit for that to Tony Dungy not that idiot that they replaced him with.
