Subject: Looking for Old Main Frame Computer Props for Poser

Mark@poser ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2010 at 7:56 AM · edited Sun, 09 February 2025 at 6:09 PM

I thought I saw a item for sale here a few months back that was a series of old computer props. They were old main frames like we used in the 70's and 80's. I can't find it under any logical search. Seems strange it would just disappear like that. Does anyone know the item I'm describing?

Thanks
Mark

What kind of mainframes (specific names) are you looking for, Mark? I like doing retro models like this - Id be interested in knowing what you are looking for.

Best regards,

Do a search for "computer" in Freestuff here, a couple of rough but ready candidates should present themselves.

Well I was thinking of the old Cray computers with the hexagonal shape. I also wanted something like the old free standing reel to reel tape drives. I would guess any others would work too. The old big VAX's come to mind.

I was thinking of the old 70's TV shows that always had rows of tapes drives and computers working away to solve problems, so it wasn't that I needed anything too specific. I did look thru the free stuff and didn't see what I recalled was for sale here a few months back. I was sure I saw those here....

Thanks
Mark

There are a couple of IBM mainframes at Google 3D Warehouse. You cas use the demo version of SketchUp  to export them to .obj format (I think you need to check 'Triangulate all faces'). They have several IBM peripherals and a Cray 1, but the latter looks very low resolution. A Vax 11/780 with a VT-100 would be nice :-)

That looks pretty neat. I'll look into it.

Thanks
