Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 24 7:34 pm)
You need to be more specific as to when it happens. Does it give you GPF as its trying to open Vue or after it opens and you try to do something? Also what operating system are you running? Vue is extremely Open GL intensive. So if your video driver doesn't offer top notch support there could be problems. There are 2 versions of the 1+ Gig Pentium III's. Many of the earlier version were coupled to boards using an integrated graphic adapter (video built onto the board) as the only chipset for these CPU's was the i815. These boards are notorious for having poor Open GL support in their drivers. If your computer falls into this catagory try disabling the Open GL of the graphic adapter if the driver allows it. The original i815 chipset was originally designed for use in lowend "budget" computer solutions, to save manufacturers money by having most features integrated on to the board. Later versions of the Pentium III based on the .13 micron core generally use the next generation of the i815 chipset. Most of these computers bypass the integrated graphics adapter and use a standard AGP card. The problem comes in that it still requires the graphic data to be routed by the GMC Hub and the I/O Controller Hub which helps with the data bandwidth but provides potential conflict with external cards and their drivers. As a consequence there have been reports of Open GL problems with Pentium III Tualatin (.13 micron core)especially with some versions of cards using the Nvidia's GeForce 3 chipset. So again disable the Open GL if the driver allows it. By the way for anyone thinking of upgrading, you would save money and get better performance with an AMD Athlon then either the Pentium III's or Pentium IV's. 3D rendering is very heavily FPU dependent and frankly the Intel CPU's aren't up to it. Two CPU's running at the same clock speed, one an Athlon the other Intel, the Athlon will render 15-25% faster. Because of the chipset architecture the AMD's have fewer video card issues with the higher end cards. Most manufacturers when they rate their card's speeds use Athlon based computers for that reason.
Well... If that can help you, I had some problem with Vue3 (full release) installed on W2000. It loads ok, but when I tried to create an new landscape, or loading an existing one, it simply crashes. If you're running your computer on W2000 system, this could be the origin of your problem... PS : if there are faults on my message, please, excuse me, I'm french :-)
